The new PRL has passed you by then Bradders?

No it hasn’t, I think it’s a great idea and wish it well

there was a very short lived post on here advertising the match at Gardner’s, but no sooner was it posted then it was gone

its all about getting people to take part, some of you seem to make that as difficult as possible, and the entry fees certainly don’t seem to help, but you have a situation in that this forum is the main advertising mechanism for this new venture and they’re no shortage of people with suitable equipment, but none of them will take the bait and enter and support the matches, and without that support it’s going to take an awful long time to gain acceptance, and until then you will just have the same couple of dozen people at the matches

We used to struggle until we finally convinced people to use their rifles in a way they were so designed for and we used to get 15-20 entries and 30 seemed like a good number, but we persevered and look where we are now....approaching max capacity

Vince himself said on here that 100yd BR numbers were around 20 and not growing, why is that?

Our formula seems to work and you all need to be a bit more open

You can be so tedious Bradders. If it's something you like, its' great. If it's not you just slag it off. Give it a rest. It's boring.........

I have  moved on but you lot keep dragging this thread  back up

its odd though that while the other thread with TJCs new rifle had some great info in it regarding importation and proof rules, it’s just been chopped to buggery by overly zealous moderator Baldie Wan Kenobi, this one which is just full of inane nonsense still lives on

i was done with it anyway, I have a match to organise for me and my 126 mates on a Sunday (well 125 actually, one of them isn’t a friend by anyone’s stretch of the imagination)

i would add that it’s fine to be boring, golf, darts and snooker are also, but I see very little from interested parties with regards to attracting new blood into your disciplines

we have 5 new shooters this weekend inc one more lady, I must be a terrible person that’s doing it all wrong!

    bon voyage

Dr Bradders, I need some advice from you....I'm a Northern git living in the SouthWest....is that bad?  If so, what can I do about it?

    Dear VarmLR

Don't go near the M5, If you take the Northbound carraigeway it will only lead you to a land of Misery and a "we're just as good as you in the South" attitude, as well as constantly referring to Southeners as Jessies and Shandy Drinkers, whereas Barnsley is actually the Gay capital of Britain, and Baldie should know all about that with the amount of "Dry-Bumming" comments he seems to make

Furthermore Diggle is in the North, You can see its mountains in the pic above with the Redcoats, not Ancoats where my Sister has unfortunately moved to....thankfully she hasn't started wearing a Kaghoul yet or saying Knockoutttttt or Sunsheeeeinnnneeeee, but even she admits the broad sunlit uplands of the South are better

Re: Diggle, there is a propensity for the men in the clubhouse to constantly be quasi-lewd to fit in and revert to gay smutty behaviour "don't bend over in front of him" "Come 'ere big boy, I''ll show you what a real man's like" etc etc

Do you want to really revert to being one of those?

    I thought not

Tell me, how did the British army fare that day?

Not so well at Isandlwana, but rather well at Rourke's Drift,

You see, they were trained marksmen, who understood application of fire. In modern times they would be ideal CSR shooters, shooting from multi positions, kneeling and standing etc while delivering deliberate and rapid precision firing under duress, There was one F Classer, a malingerer called Hook, but he was lurking away in the Sick Bay

Well I am sorry if I caused offence by being thin skinned but often the only way people know you are jesting is to use emojis. There is no tone or smile on the web. Also Bradders to be fair you had just been rude about someone because he hadn't said thankyou. Maybe he should have, maybe he just forgot but you certainly didn't give out the feeling that you joked a lot and then the post about people shooting at short ranges sounded fairly abrasive to me.

    David.

Is it rudder to not say thank you than point it out? Is rudder even a word? What about ruder

Bloke asks a question, another bloke helps him out, first bloke looks at the answer and then just goes away without even a Ta or Cheers, yet a few days later revisits the same thread

My mum taught me to say thank you, and I'm nothing special....well actually I am 🤣

That was on an entirely unrelated thread to this one though, so has no relevance, Kalahari Secombe

Take it from me, life is too short to be as serious as you lot, and Terry, CSR is the best thing ever

We constantly strive to promote it and get new blood in, other disciplines don't do likewise

For all you think of me, I seem to do very well at getting people to come along and take part, shame the other guy has never even introduced one single person to it

How do you get into Benchrest? (psst, top secret, wink) how do you get into F Class? (whisper whisper, there's a forum somewhere) how do you get into PSR? (psst, you have to know the right people, and then meet up at a secret place....and don't tell anyone where it is, we'll take your pic but might pixilate it) How do you get into CSR, well you come along, we'll even lend you a rifle and ammo, and if you don't come along and have a great day with loads of other like-minded people at the World Famous® shooting complex where world champions are made, then there's something wrong with you

I will continue to harangue, cajole and encourage people to come along in my own way, but know this....more people have taken part AFTER buying a rifle from me than before, so I really must be a terrible person 😉

Re-Pete, next time you go into Bisley, make sure you shut the gate behind you, we don't need oiks on our hallowed turf 🙂

You'll miss me when I'm gone

Mileage isn't really a factor to go to something specific but its a waste to go  plinking and there's Bradders moaning about only 75 miles and the time it takes 😂

I'm lucky to have a lovely 500yd range and several tunnel ranges within 15 miles of home and Diggle is around an hours drive so like I said Bisley ain't the be all and end all.

    Each to their own.

Sometimes that 75 miles is 4 hrs, but you're right it is a long way to go for a Plinky Plonker®, such as yourself

That said, there are so many events on offer there that there's no reason to go there just to Plink....or Plonk whatever your preference is

It's good they offer a 25% discount, anything to help the poor needy people of the North, but Derby isn't "The North", it's the Midlands....and that's even worse 🤣🤣

I wasn't aware you travelled that far,

Alot of the club members I know travel as far and further than me ,there is some more local shooters but I only know a few, it's more a case of finding the time in the busy lives we lead

Ive only ever been there once in 8 years on a week day that was a Friday and i stayed overnight.

Long way round the M25, only 30 as the crow flies, but a trip across London is a nightmare

On CSR Days we have people coming from Devon, Dorset, Norfolk, the Black country, Derby and Stoke, Cumbria, Swansea, Bristol etc, one guy flies from Aberdeen, we have a group that travels up from Paris, and one on occasion from Copenhagen

On any given weekend you'll see cars with plates from Germany and Holland, as well as France and sometimes Italy

Mileage isn’t a factor, but I’d be inclined to see if MJR is actually a member of the NRA or a club that shoots there?

Two of us share 6 rifles, and we're both ex-scientific types..........so lots!!

There's a great deal of satisfaction (and fun) to be had from trying different combinations of powders and bullets in the quest for that "possible".

I don't feel the need to compete to see if I'm better than anyone else, because I don't care..............

    Pete

Well there is that, plus you have access to the best ranges in the world

320 mile round trip? I can see why it's a tiring venture when you're lugging a big Northern chip on your shoulder

  9. You’re asking on the wrong forum

That range has wind flags and is too “Square-on” (whatever that means) and probably doesn’t support .3000 Norma Lap Mag BR Creedmoor calibres of the week, best to drive straight past it and set up in a field, preferably shooting sideways off a pallet 🤣

that said, I popped in on Sunday morning and there was precisely one target being used at 600, a club were set up for McQueens at 300 and Short Siberia was absolutely heaving, so while the 100/200 Siberia Plinky Plonkers were out en masse, “Full Bore” shooters are their own worst enemy

I can’t really talk though as most of my shooting these days is the monthly CSR matches, and the occasional trip round to test something or grab a zero

Lying there aimlessly shooting away with no real purpose doesn’t do it for me

  10. This might be what you’re looking for

    http://www.collectorgrade.com/bookshelf9.html

That said, as the rifle was so short lived, you might end up being disappointed and in fact the book “The Black Rifle” might be a better bet, as not only does it touch on the early AR10, but also goes on to follow its development into the AR15

Certainly an interesting rifle, but coming out around the time of the also short lived M14, and also the FAL, it didn’t really stand a chance, and by the time they realised the M14 wasn’t that great, development had moved on to the 5.56 variant which as we all know, still lives on to this day
