  1. I’m sure with a quality barrel - if fitted by a competent rifle smith you should be able to develop a load that returns single hole accuracy at calibre diameter or just slightly larger without resorting to a tuner

You don’t say if the brass you’ve loaded is brand new or left overs from the old barrel

If the new barrel was chambered and headspace’s to the same dimensions as the old barrel then it should fit

The issue will be the bore diameter of the Bartlein will likely be different to the Sassen it replaced and if tighter land diameter will manifest in higher pressure

something to bear in mind from the onset

A tuner may help with a generic load but doesn’t replace good practice load development

    👍🏻

  2. Thanks for the pics and explanation re the contamination

the pics of the chassis show some witness marks (tang area and around forward action screw hole

There are also witness marks on the action in similar areas

There doesn’t need to be any movement under recoil to create these marks

It highlights my point that even inlets thy replicate certain actions are not 100% contact and will cause stress in an action when torqued down due to elasticity of the materials and the high forces generated (even at 50 inch pounds) that’s enough to bend the action or pull it out of shape

This will have an adverse reaction to accuracy

How much is dependant on where and how much movement there is in the action and it’s effect on contact surfaces of bolt lug : abutments : barrel tenon

An example - last week I bedded a HS Prevision stock (alloy v block design in let) to a rifle I built two years ago, the rifle was put in a used pre bedded stock (bedded to another action) bought post build by the client - it shot sub half Moa in that stock

I had some pictures back yesterday of groups shot with the rifle in the stock I bedded

    Single hole, consistently repeatable groups

That demonstrates the importance of mating the action to the inlet with bedding

This isn’t the first time such improvements  have been highlighted

The rifle in question is for deer work - I’d recommend anyone with a comp gun give thought to this simple but effective improvement to their chassis based “system”

  3. No

the Rem clones and Rem 700 are never a perfect all contact fit in any chassis including AiCS and any chassis that is “inlet for specific action”

One usually finds there is waterline contact along the length of the action on either side

Appropriate skim bedding will address this though and provide stress free contact when action screws torqued

  4. So the UK warrantied units are selling or likely to sell at £530

yet people are buying from the states at 500 and incurring import duties and vat to the tune of over 100

Non UK importer supplied units are not covered by warranty in this country and no doubt they will have serial number so easily verified

Am I missing something as why it is sensible or even an intelligent option to buy outside the uk ?

  5. If you have the means then fly to Denver, hire car and head south to New Mexico and visit the Whittington Centre near Raton

This is the NRA largest range and has hosted KO2M in the past

I know you can hire weapons to use there

    May be worth exploring

There are some places near Las Vegas that hire 50 cals but I’m not sure of how far one is able to shoot

  6. I do 😃

im, trying not to take work on because of that and balance out family , deer and target play rather than slaving at the wheel of death 24/7

plenty of folk now with a lathe starting up these days - only the dedicated will find me and get me to do work 😂😂

Also sourcing a suitable stock for the PChey is proving to be a bit of a quest - my main option is no longer available unfortunately (should have bought the chassis at the same time as the damn action)

Manners, Dima and a spot in Oz that make chassis are on the list - Dima laminate looks most favourable

this will now, no doubt be a 2025 evolution, though barrelled action will be done way before that.

Not in a great rush as I’ve several big jobs on that are taking time at the mansion, which yet again is turning into a money pit 😂😂

    Love a 284
Mines currently a shehane although I don't see much improvement on my over the standard forming load overall to be honest with regard to velocity.

had a fox at 680M with the other week so it defiantly gets the job done with 180g elds,(ive not used 162s in this barrel but i get around 2800 with 180s

furniture changed but barrelled action looks familiar Andy

    👍🏻

  8. Gents and ladies (depending how you identify) ,,,,

Please see the link to the 2024 calendar for the UK Rifle Series competitions

These will be all held at Gardners Guns near Carlisle using the ranges there or at their Eskdalemuir complex

Highly recommend participating, there are many members of the site who help and compete with these comps which are held in a very friendly atmosphere - no egos or b s usually ans lots of people with experience to help anyone who hasn’t been before and wants to try it out

You don’t “need” anything other than a willing countenance, a zeroed rifle and an idea of your ballistic data

Come and have a go and enjoy yourselves :
