  1. I was just thinking today, with the increasing popularity of .22LR semi-auto AR15s, wouldn't it be brilliant if someone could be bothered to invest the time and money to develop a new .22 rimfire cartridge tailored to squeeze the most out of UK legislation for longer range (accurate / flatter trajectory) semi-auto shooting.

I'm not talking seriously far, just a decent extended range to, say, around 200 yards quite flat. For UK semi-auto it would obviously have to be .22, and magnum to push the distance but imagine if it was designed from the ground up for mag feeding into an AR15 with a decent ballistic co-efficient as well, would be a great new little round.

I know some builders are doing this with .22 WMR already, but with centrefire precision rifle seemingly getting a new 6mm calibre every month it would be nice to give our UK-specific limitation some love and attention! Wish someone like Eley would take up the fantasy challenge.

  2. Yeah that's what's irritating me. Going to give it a couple of weeks and then email stating that I want a true current estimate based on my position on the waiting lists and rifles per batch and when they're currently anticipated for.

If they can't provide a real honest estimate then yes I think I'll cancel and get one built elsewhere. It's shame because I'm sure the product is great but the communication is absolutely shocking.

  3. To be clear here, they did not ask for full payment up front, that was my call because I had the money and wanted a realistic account balance so thought I'd just do it. I'd assume in the event I wanted to cancel that it would be refundable. So I have no issue on the payment front.

What frustrates me is that their production / ETA updates are simply non-existent. I email every couple of months and just get a standard 'they're on their way' sort of email. I wish they were just pro-active in keeping their customers who have deposits down informed, even just once a month.

Originally I was told 'around October but expect high possibility of delay' which was reasonable - I anticipated delays due to the circumstances. Then in January that a batch of Stealth Ravens was due March, then more were on their way in July and they just go down the customer list for order date and depending on how may they get, the customers highest up the list would get it.

Surely any well-run operation would know how many rifles are coming per batch (with at least an estimated time), do a simple calculation based on where you are on the waiting list and tell you which batch you'll get one and when that's due?

  4. Just wondering what's the longest anyone's waited for a Lantac from day of order? I know they're renowned for long lead times but I have just crossed the sobering milestone of 1 year because my Stealth Raven was ordered late July last year. Do I have the dubious honour of a record here?

I know there's a shortage of rifles and parts (especially AR15s) because in the USA lots of people have panic bought for everything from Covid to Biden but a year still just seems crazy.

  5. Anybody have much experience using these riflescopes, whether positive or negative? I know they're big players / market leaders in the red dot / holographic sight world and this was their first line of scopes. The reason I ask is that this is half price and I'm honestly tempted to pick one up (will find a use for it on something!) to see if the quality matches it's RRP as opposed to it's discounted price:

EOTech Vudu 3.5-18x50 FFP Precision 34mm Illuminated Rifle Scope - MRAD (opticswarehouse.co.uk)

That said there's only 2 in stock so I might inadvertently bring them to the attention of others who are similarly intrigued and snap them up!

  6. Now that ASE Utra have discontinued the venerable Jet-Z Series what will folks be purchasing going forward for ‘muzzle can’ moderators?

Wildcat, Stalon & DPT only offer over-barrel mods. All I could really find is MAE’s ‘slimline’ offering:

    ...and A-Tec ‘Pro’ line ones:

Not much gets me moist these days, but i've just backordered one of these.

There are non in the country yet, despite companies advertising them.....

I'm gonna do bad things to it.........

I'm curious to know the thoughts of experienced and knowledgeable gunsmiths such as yourself on the .277 Fury round Sig have developed for this rifle. From my far less educated point of view, it seems to me it will fizzle out. Correct me if I'm wrong but the main feature of the calibre is the increased velocity so that it sees fps from a 16" barrel comparable to what you'd expect from something like a 24" barrel, meaning the rifle can be lighter and more compact. All well and good, however, this is only achieved through chamber pressures (80,000 PSI from what I've read) that far exceed all current action tolerances these days.

Currently as it stands, only Cross owners (who chose that calibre) would support ammunition purchases, and can anyone really see other manufacturers putting in the R&D to develop new action footprints for a single, new calibre? Without the support of other big production companies whose rifles are commonly bought (lets say Tikka, Remington, Savage et al) how could producing this ammunition makes business sense? I definitely couldn't see any of the custom action manufacturers such as Defiant, Bighorn, Stiller, Borden etc doing it so I suppose what I'm asking is how will this calibre sustain itself and is it dead in the water from the off?

I know it was developed as part of US Defence contract proposal for an LMG (I think?) so if they got that I know that would massively changed things due to mil-surp ammo becoming available. That would probably spur most manufacturers to take it seriously and develop actions specifically for it with the appropriate pressure tolerances.

Thoughts? Would people agree or am I completely missing the the mark here?

You may be right in that it may be more difficult to find a new scope with a duplex ret, but I’m sure Leupold still make them.
Would you consider buying a used scope?

I’ll check out Leupold, thanks. Unfortunately I’m one of those people who has this pedantic personality trait where I like to own things from nee haha, nothing I can do about it I’m afraid.

There's a good (buyers) second hand market in quality Duplex reticle scopes. I've just acquired a nice Minox for not much money that I've put on to a .22LR. Worth looking around the various forums.

Didn’t actually consider Minox but does look like they have a couple offerings, thanks for that! Actually seriously considering one.

Leupold, sightron , hawk, bushnell, red field , Burris all do them

Sorry if this sounds lazy, but do you have any links? They've obviously slipped through the net for me somehow.

Sightron do a simple crosshairs with centre dot.  I’ve got the S3 6-24x50, ace optics for the price.

    Cheers, will take a look!

  10. Are Duplex’s seriously out of fashion or something?! I’ve been searching all top and mid-range manufacturers (just for the glass quality) for an optic with a nice good ‘ol duplex in the range of 4 - 20x magnification for general .22LR use across rabbits, bit of gallery / practical and can’t seem to find anything! Anybody got any recommendations? I even tried Hawke which I thought at the low-mid range might’ve had something but there was nothing.

All I could find were the ridiculously expensive / very high magnification ones designed for benchrest.

Chuck another in the mix Altberg? I have a pair of High Moor Keeper Boots, best boots I've ever warn. Comfy maintain feet temp etc...

    CZV

A second here for Altberg (surprised and pleased to see them mentioned in the mix!). I've had their 'military' style black boots for 7 years and they're so comfortable and still going strong. Current price on website is £180 but you may be after a different style.

  12. Thanks for the replies. I do intend to try as many brands / types as I can. I was just curious about cycling issues on funny-shaped or other match rounds so thanks for clearing that up terryh. I didn't even know the CCI AR copper wash ammo existed so will definitely be seeking that out to throw into the test mix!

  13. I ordered a Lantac Stealth Raven a few weeks ago (yes I fancied dropping a load of money...). It'll be my first semi-auto, I've shot a few in the past though but never seriously considered ammunition until now since it'll be my primary plinker. I notice lots of manufacturers now have semi-auto marketed ammunition, I was just wondering - what's people's experiences with it?

Do semi-auto's ever struggle cycling with match ammo like Eley Match, CCI Green Tag or RWS R50? Or is this specifically branded 'semi-auto' ammo largely unnecessary?

If people do consider it more suitable the ones I was considering initially testing when I get the rifle were Eley Contact (for subsonic), Eley Force (for supersonic) and SK Semi-Auto - thoughts?

  14. Cheers for the reply Timbo. As I'm starting out I'll probably stick with low magnification at first and then just see how I naturally progress I suppose. Unfortunately for myself (much as I'd love one for all of my different shooting disciplines...) a March optic is absolutely out of the question haha. Highest I can really push my budget to even for my mid- to longer- range optics is a Vortex Viper PST Gen II - solid midrange priced stuff. Took a look at the Sightron you suggested and I like the basic reticle and price, will definitely consider it if I evolve down the route of higher magnification like you said some gallery shooters prefer.
