  1. We had a great day Barry and my first experience of shooting steel targets. I was using a single shot 6mmbr. Really in the ethos of run what you have got. It wasnt the arms race it is now. The steel shooting we see now days has such specialised kit, you would never want to use the rifle for anything else. Much like you wouldn’t take an F class rifle out deer stalking or foxing, you wouldn’t with a rifle that would get you finishing a stage on a PRS stage.

Well over 2000 rounds (I bought the rifle used) and a stuck cleaning rod,  which in my ham fisted efforts to remove it seems to have marked the lands. One or both of the above has seen groups opening up and the odd unexplained flyer.

Neil McKillop has fitted the barrel and diagnosed the old one.

2000 rounds isn’t too bad. The stuck cleaning rod is something I have to admit to also doing with my first centrefire. It also ended up in a re-barrel.

as per the replies above. You might struggle with the brass if the chambers differ too much. Worth taking the firing pin out and checking the chamber.

I would also do some pressure testing. Load up some rounds from 40gr in .5gr steps to make sure the rifle will be safe with the load you have in your 500 rounds  fingers crossed for you, because pulling 500 rounds will be no fun at all.

  3. I have recently had a promotional email from Brownells promoting a red dot optic that is good for those with astigmatism. Some will recall I have suffered with red dots bursting in scopes. It sounds like a positive improvement.  Once aginst the American name of the company doesn't really inspire but the design of the optic has to be credited.

    From the advert;

    ETCHED RETICLE
The CDC notes around one in three individuals face astigmatism, affecting red dot use. The Raider offers a superior option as its reticle isn't projected onto glass, reducing starburst effects. Illuminated within the optic, it prevents washout by weapon lights, unlike red dots. When activated, the reticle remains visible as a black silhouette, ensuring consistent visibility.

I've just made the jump into a Kestrel 5700 Elite from using Strelok and Hornady 4DoF.

Got fed up of being let down by apps crashing and not being able to update etc.

My decision was made up when watching a 'Masterclass' video on the 5700 Elite on YouTube and I was quite impressed with some of the stuff you can do on it... YOU CAN EVEN PLAY SNAKE!

I'm looking forward to getting everything set up for my rifles and tested at the next match.

Which masterclass video did you watch? I’ve just bought the kestrel and a quick start you be handy.

  5. There is rumour the new AT-XC will have a magnum bolt face in the future. The enlarged pressure relief port may be a sign that this will come to market. Although a time frame for this will be tbc.

a cheeky 6mm creedmoor would be nice or even 6mmGT seeing as lapua are making brass. No need for brass forming IMHO with any 6mmbr basses wildcat.

So the UK warrantied units are selling or likely to sell at £530

yet people are buying from the states at 500 and incurring import duties and vat to the tune of over 100

Non UK importer supplied units are not covered by warranty in this country and no doubt they will have serial number so easily verified

Am I missing something as why it is sensible or even an intelligent option to buy outside the uk ?

As with anything why people do what is that never ending question 🤣

  7. Thank you for your thoughts both of you.

Quite interesting what you say about de-priming in front of the TV.  I am currently loading from a temporary location and being able to load anywhere is necessary.  Be that in front of the TV or on the kitchen table.  The idea of finger fatigue has put me right off, to be honest.  I load batches at a time and only doing 20-30 before feeling discomfort doesn't sound like it will work for me.

  8. Euro Optic won't deliver to the UK and Sterk has gone quiet on SnipersHIde and also Facebook by all accounts.  Brownells UK has them listed at a quite frankly ridiculous price but not in stock.  I managed to get one secondhand last year.  Although I must admit the Tikka factory large extension is preferable to me on an all-around rifle.  It adds the extra leverage yet doesn't stick out too far and is aesthetically pleasing.

  9. I really like it on the T3 and would definitely recommend it, however I have had to take mine off and replace with a picatinny rail.  Unfortunately the 34mm model doesn't fit my day scope and interferes with the turret housing so I have had to forgo the 30mm model as well.  I was using them to swap from digital NV to day scope. I just can't get on with the image from a digital scope  for day use.  I have both the 30mm and 34mm models sat on the shelf and can't bring myself to move them on because I like them so much. Its like I am waiting for something to magically change on the day scope for it to fit, which I know isn't going to happen. But rest assured they are a great mount and look good as well.

    Cheers pal.

apologies folks we seem to have hijacked this .284 thread.

one thing is for sure the 7mm’s really do offer the best ballistics. They absolutely trump the 6.5’s and I can’t wait to get mine up and running. It’s been through 4 people now so no idea if the barrel is going to shoot or it’s toast. One thing is for sure I’ll be having another 7 SAUM barrel put on it if it is.

    Why N560..?

N165 is really good in the saum.

If I remember rightly I had the 162gr amaxs doing over 3000fps in my first saum barrel on H1000.

    A 28 inch barrel I think..

    I've still got it

After a lot of searching for powder and coming up short. I came across the 7 SAUM reloading topic on snipershide. n560 showed some pretty great results and I found some in stock. It’s worth a go.

    With what bullet Dave..?

    162gr eldx or a 180gr ELDM..??

Your 7mm saum could blow either of them if fired in quick succession..

Slow fire with small strings may not see a blow up.

    Depending on the conditions..

Wind dependant I probably fire the 4 shots on each exposure in 25 seconds.

The last exposure is 20 seconds.

    24 shots altogether..

4 siters and 20 to count..

    6 exposures of 4 fig11s..

    One shot on each fig11

162’s but going to also try 180’s I haven’t decided which to use yet. The rifle has previously shot 180gr bergers.

I’ve finally managed to pick up a kg if N560. I’m not planning on any snap shooting. I’ve got a use in mind that many won’t agree with 😜
