If it were mine, I think I'd frame that last one @Farmer rick

At 100 m that is exceptional in my opinion

In all the thousands of rounds sent down range @ 100m I've never been able to better 0.75" with my Cz

    Which Cz are you using?

    With what ammo?

And what kind of weather!  That bottom group is pretty but is looks to be three and a half bullet widths wide. That would put it in the .7 region. Hard to tell from a photo.

Nice shooting, regardless. The winds here don't allow that kind of grouping too often.~Andrew

Maybe I think of it more as a limited window of opportunity. Frankford Arsenal ( best China) are not making precision presses like the Zero or Turban but a constant force motor and scale could be done in China for a lot less money.  It may hold the same appeal as a treadmill to Stephen Hawking’s but many use Holosun ( half the price) red dots on pistol who used to swear by Trijicon.

    Maybe so. ~Andrew

Ok thanks  just thought it might be worth a look but only really in a bolt action.

Don't listen to these guys. If you want one in a bolt gun, get one. People tell me the same thing about the 6.5 Grendel. I shoot three bolt guns in Grendel. I don't shoot the ARC but considering its lineage it should be a good cartridge. Hornady factory ammo claims 2750 fps with a 105  grain bullet. Efficient and quick. Ballistically speaking, there doesn't look to be a spits worth of difference between the 6mm PPC and the ARC with bullets in that weight class. LIke I said, I don't shoot either but I'm guessing the accuracy potential is there.

Get one and wring it out. JMHO~ Andrew

  4. He can say what he wants about the AMP, but he said right off that he used the Bench Source up until he bought the AMP. If he is an established  champion shooter, who at least once shot 1.5 " at 1000 yards, he did it all using the Bench Source. That will be a hard fact to deconstruct while selling the virtues of the AMP.

I've got the Bench Source. Works fine for me. With the difference in pricing between the two units I saved enough to buy a new rifle~ Andrew

Will be shooting 600 yards out to about 1250

Be honest with your self: Will you be really shooting at 1250 regularly? Or just wanting to give it a pop once in a while? I have a 2100 yard range but seldom shoot more than 1200 and usually spend most of my time 800 to 1000 with about any rifle. It just seems a more practical course of fire.

You may want to get something with a little more snort if you plan on 1250 regularly. Easiest option is a 300 WM with 208's. Those will reach easily.~ Andrew

Between 2450 and 2654 using Starline LRP brass and Murom KVB7 primers.

Best 5 shot group in my Tikka Tac A1 (24" barrel) was using 36gr, .285" between centres with an ES of 37fps.

Horrible, horrible grouping. You should get rid of that rifle.

    My address is.......

Seriously. My TAC A1 had given me a group or two scaring the sub .3MOA mark but I figure with me behind the trigger, and shooting prone, that was still good. My TAC is frighteningly accurate with Nosler 140 Custom Competitions at around 2700 fps.~ Andrew

  7. I shoot my 308 to 1000 using 175 grain bullets. I shoot 6,5 CM beyond that. I would never go with a 28" barrel on a 308. My rifle is 22 inches and does just fine with 168 and 175 grain bullets. When the weather is right, I can use 168's out to 1000 (3200 ft altitude and dry) but I would count on 175's as being a staple. One of the benefits of the 308 are lots of bullets available and command less price than 6,5's. Six-point five bullets are bringing a premium here in the States.

In the end, your personal definition of "Long range" will make your decision for you. If that means 600 yards 90 % of the time, a 308 is your huckleberry. If its a steady diet of 1200-1500 yard, even the 6,5 CM won't keep your interest. ~Andrew

That's pretty shocking from them. This thread unfortunately seems to detail their slide into mediocrity. I'll stick to cheap and cheerful Lee dies but hold onto my old 5-0-5 scales.

    Yup.~ Andrew

  9. I contacted RCBS about a set of new 7.62x39 dies from which I do neat, uniform striations along the neck from the FL sizer. Looked like a purposefully applied crimp. I contacted them, sent photos of the cases, and 5 weeks later (after I'd purchased a new die set) their people contacted me to say that I was using the die incorrectly and that it needed cleaning. I stripped it an tossed it in the trash. Forty five years of using RCBS equipment over. ~Andrew

Hi Andrew, I really like XDs I had one but sold it only because we do a lot of our training with Glocks or Cz p10c’s so I train with them.

I appreciate the paradox though - here we go crazy for anything out of USA especially Texas ( STI / Staccato) but you are lovin the XDM from Croatia. I would highly recommend trying a Cz Shadow 2 also. It’s a boat anchor but we like them, it’s about the best IPSC /USPSA Optics Ready division pistol.

    Today suns out, guns out.

IT is odd, isn't it? I like the XD's, I have a XD Tactical 45ACP that outshoots my old Colt Gold Cup, and I have the XD 9mm Sub Compact for carrying -it is very accurate as well. Years back I got to test the XD Match in 45 ACP and 9mm. Both would shoot exceptionally well with the cheapest factory ammo. The $800 price tag was out of my league at the time.  With this 9mm, I happened to be in the ranch supply store and spied this XD Match Elite Precision for just over $500 US. Two magazines of twenty one round capacity and a few different back straps, New in the Box. I couldn't pass it up. (I still think they mis priced it) comfortable and a superb trigger. My 135 grn handloads will shoot as well as I can hold. I have only put a coulpe of hundred rounds through it but I do love it.

    On a slightly different tack....

I purchased a Taurus TX 22 semi auto right after this XD. To say I am impressed with this 16 round Taurus is an understatement. I have dozens of handguns and this one is rapidly becoming my favorite rimfire auto. One of the most ergonomic grips I have experienced. Threaded for a suppressor from the factory, and 100% reliable with any numbers of ammunition. 17 ounce weight. Made in Taurus' plant in the US.  If you ever get the chance to fire one, don't pass it by. ~Andrew

Thanks for all your input,i hope to get my .308 re barreled next year so will be putting a 26 inch on it,

I'm not sure that extra length will give substantial returns.  1000 yards is not too difficult with a 308 provided you are using a heavy bullet,(175) or a lighter bulet (168) when the environment is accomodating. You might struggle at sea level with 168's but I watched my girlfriend jangle a MOA steel plate at 1100 yards using Hornady 168 Match at 3200 ft/ASL on a dry day with a MV of 2649 fps. I warned her that on a different day, the results might have been frustratingly different. With my Ruger Precision 308 and 175 grain Noslers, loaded over a mil spec charge of IMR4064, a MOA plate at 1000 is only saved a beating by my inability to read the wind.~Andrew
