  1. Lot of things that we (I) did use are now unacceptable in general use, but WTH:

as much use as a hand brake in a canoe

As popular as a turd in a punch bowl

    Life's like a blackman's left leg - it's not right and it's not fair

That's the rind on the Edam cheese of life

a blind man would like to see it.

Tight as a ducks arse (you can substitute re a nun's anatomy here!)

    dim as a TokH lamp

    slicker than a greased weasel

her face looked like it had caught on fire an someone put it out with a shovel

    face like a driller's vice  / welder's bench.

    all over the place like mad woman's s h i t

  2. Ashcroft,

not used the Lodrag but have used an original X1 (bought for a hunt in the US) which was very comfortable and handled a reasonable load + rifle

In fact if you wanted an X1 it's sitting there pretty much as new - I'm probably never going to use it again?

  3. Andrew,

Bit of a classic setup you have there. The Win 52 (which model BTW?) is a great rifle I was taught to shoot prone by a guy who used a 52E in a Freeland tunable stock and had a D as a spare. Think they have one of the tightest (read 'shortest) chambers of any 22rf.

Unertl external adjustment scope - very nice. Which flavour of Unertl ?

    Any chance of a photo?

Define good glove? I use a grippy work glove, personally.

If you are at Bisley though, let me know if you fancy a brew

    Scrummy

Think I'd need to get a true shooting glove as the rifle I'd use is pretty heavy so most padding / strength possible to avoid a dead hand 😧

Just looked at the 1200 ballistics and it should still be hanging in there 😎 (just)

If I do make any of the day's I'll pm you.

I read one of Nathan Fosters books and he certainly advocates shooting off your back pack/day bag.

    Gruntus,

This is my approach, you need to carry a  pack of some kind (keep it small otherwise you fill it with unnecessary crap) so why not use it.

To this end I made up a light 'packer' to go into the hydration pouch as an experiment (NB very much a WIP 😉). you can rotate the pack to give the necessary height you need, might cut a divot out of the packer to allow various heights.

Saves ending up looking like an advert for sofa warehouse carrying about 4 different cushions round 🙄.

Hopefully pack and one good, well designed rear bag (that 'locks up') and I'm done.

Isn't a belted case head-spaced off the belt not the shoulder?

PbG in the traditional approach 'yes' due to the original concept of safety over accuracy - something with teeth coming at you and you want the case held against the face of the bolt so the firing pin / primer works.

When reloading for paper targets you can forget the belt and reload as per normal for your rifle i.e. FL size to push the should back 'a bit' and go from there. the only issue can be a bulge near the belt (as the belt creates a stress point) which the IT base sizer die takes care of.

  7. Mr Baggins,

Feel it will be a 'suck it and see' (usual caveats: dropping loads to start with). When I had a 300WM AWM I used Fed LR Mag match and it worked very well. Anecdotal info has the Feb LR Mag primers being developed for the Weatherby cartridges so 'hot' (or it it brisance? ) but have to admit they were the primer on hand as the flavour of the day for BPCR prior to all the under / over primer wads.

If you have a dig round you should be able to find detailed published info from the US Army's load development for the 300WM when they were using it for extended distance sniper duties - about 20 years old now though?

Nice cartridge, forget about the belt bit and get hold of an Innovative Technologies base sizer die.

    Cheers Terry

Yeah it was popular on the gallery rifle scene 2 or 3 years ago, haven't seen any available recently though thankfully I bought several pounds of it.

Have not looked recently, have a good few tubs.

What ‘is’  the current flavour of the day then re. 38 Spl.?

  9. Local club is very 'gallery orientated' with some national team members.

Quite a few recommend GM3 which I tried (after capitulating and buying a gallery rifle) against a few other powders and it performed very well, from memory 3.8g under a commercial 158g cast bullet.

    Hmmmm, not sure on this.

Depends who the organiser was. I've seen people shoot this event with semi-auto 22s and bolt actions.

Most ROs won't have a problem with it, just understand what they want in terms of clearing the rifle.

This usually means removing the magazine and having a flag to stop the bolt going forward.

It's all going to be a bit odd with proximity and Covid restrictions anyway.

But please, if you have a semi auto and want to shoot it, please do.

    Scrummy

The response  was from the LRRFC not the NRA.
Not an issue, I’ll wait for the new bolt gun and shoot the F-Class next opportunity.
My semi 22rf is AR based, really good barrel and accurate but probably not’the done thing 🤔😂

  11. Indeed, Looking at this comp as a bit of a enjoyable challenge.

The rules say 'single shot' but not a hurried COF so only a bit of a 'faff'. a single shot adapter would make it into a drop in and close bot operation

I contacted one of the organisers who was very helpful but also in their response made it clear that he considered repeaters as dangerous, which I had trouble digesting, but their house their rules.

Waiting on a bolt rifle at present and will have a go when it arrives.
