Very secretive with loads regarding club comps mate . Don’t want us newcomers beating the old hands ???? . Took me a lot of persuading to get info re what’s a good starting point . Happy with my loads now 7 years later  . It’s just how it is with clubs . Cheers

Actually never found this , exact opposite in fact people, both this and other side of pond,, have always been very open with loads and tips/tricks. Found this very helpful when taking up BPCR.

Would suggest if this is prevalent in you current club then join a different club!

  3. Just had the 5th barrel put onto my 6.5x47, been running this same rifle in this cartridge for  must be over 15 years now, not a high volume shooter nor do I run this cartridge to hot.

just trying R17/RS60 with the 123g Scanars and first go round is looking good ( for me), last week at 900, slight R to left wind.

In my rifle that is using 41.7 grains, CCI 450 primers, 42.2 g also tried but no accuracy gains. MV is a surprising , but pleasing, 2910. Barrel is a 25” Benchmade 1:8.

Need to test this powder some more as I believe it can ‘spike’ quite quickly with temperatures but need to do some more digging on this.

N140 has worked for me previously but with less MV.

    Hi All,

I meant to ask if anyone else has seen separation of the lanolin and alcohol if its been left standing for a long while unused?

    All the best

    G

Yes, but you just give the pumper bottle a shake.

  6. It works very well, went over to this a good few years ago and have pointed others onto it.

cannot remember the ratio off hand, but 12:1 alc to lanolin rings a bell. Cheap house plant spray pumper bottle from local garden centre works a treat.

Same base constituents as commercial products but 1/10 the price.

    I didn't know that - very interesting.

    apologies, slight off OP subject

PBG, It’s linked to the softer cast bullet that ‘obdurates’ when smacked by the BP exploding. Bullets are cast around the 20:1 lead/tin where as bullets for smokeless can be, by and large, any old mix.

The fully filled grooves (canulars ) will not compress so the base of the bullet stays sharp and ‘pops’ out of the barrel rather that farting out one side and inducing a wobble

on hand snap shot of cast canular’ed and slick PP bullets

    B381E986-02F5-45B0-A74D-08D838BF298C.thumb.jpeg.d0806a4dbc54b0b09140d847c2cc29fb.jpeg

    all for 45 cal (.458”) BPCR’s , 45-70, 45-90’s etc.

  8. Not sure re missing or gaps in lube for smokeless ( which I’m assuming you are using with shop bought hard cast bullets) but if using with BP then full lube grooves are a must to stop the base of the bullet deforming.

  9. Surely a 22-204 is just putting a 204 back to its parent case the 222 Magnum?

Seems to me that some of the time it appears to be a cartridge finding a solution finding a problem?

it is ‘nice’ to try new stuff but if there are existing proven cartridges already doing the job then some of the efforts are a bit unnecessary.

    Just a thought

  10. I believe the subject cleaning rifles is very personal and does not have an absolute answer, most folks agree a bore guide is essential after that it is down to what works for you and your rifles.

Also your attitude to cleaning i.e. scrub the snot out of the bore every time to use the rifle, even if just one round is fired or a more result/inspection driven approach will drive your method.

There are some very good chemicals available now, how they are used will effect their efficiency - down to you to find out.

Personally I seldom now use a brush, if I do it is nylon (like the blue Flitz items). Apply and remove solvents etc. with the VFG felts.

Think using a bronze brush with a copper solvent is chasing you tail - will the solvent not show blue as it is trying to dissolve the bronze brush?  - but here there I go questioning some else's method = I'm wrong to do so, it's your method! :).

Bore scopes are now cheap and a very helpful tool.

  11. As there's been over 5 million Rem 700's made and some of them are pretty low grade '$340 in Wally World' version there are going to be a few issues, do not think you could expect anything else.

Triggers are normally swapped out as the 1st upgrade but basically sound design, yes bolts come off now and then, not common, but does happen.

You pays your money and go from there.

Issues for firearms not limited to Remington, Marlin has had in 'interesting; history. Even now there are problems, I recently purchased a 38/357 Marlin and the whole of one rifle groove from Chamber to muzzle was basically missing (deep tooling chatter marks), Marlins response 'we test them for accuracy then ship i.e. no one looks down the barrel. They did change out for a new rifle though.

Have you tried Eley match or Tenex..

They both shoot great for me.. so I here Tenex is batched Eley match ammo..

    Rim thickness etc

Not tried Eley products as yet.

The Chamber on my rifle has been cut to the Nevius design, Nevius being a member of Lapua's US team ( https://www.lapua.com/teamshooters/kevin-nevius/ ) who developed a chamber design to suit Lapua ammunition then made the design public plus advice on chambering, he did say that the chamber would work with Eley if the lead was changed to 2 degrees.

So Lapua and SK have been my focus and I'm getting good results out to 500 yards.

Caveat: A supplier batch tested in my rifle R100 ammunition gave good results so I'm planning on using this for LR i.e. past 200 yards.

Re. manufacturers and ammunition grades. From my understanding and talking with suppliers, all 22rf manufacturers grade their ammo by batch. The RWS guys explained that a machine is set up and run slowly with sample taken out and checked during production, this is R50, when the consistency starts to drift the machine is sped up and the next grade down is produced.

So lower consistency 'Tenex' becomes Match etc.

    Nevius chamber FYI

Shot this from 200yds last Sunday..

Posted it on anther thread by accident.

Really enjoyed shooting it longer ranges..

Shot strait into the wind the best I could..

Used 25 moa reticle to shoot it with no adjusting.

    CZ452 eley match..

You may have seen the photos

200 yards is quite 'do-able', this is 20 round group shot at Orion on a bit of a wet/mildly windy day:
