brown dog
Strikes me that, with the chamber moved forward 1cm, the 6.5x55 will be gnat's nadger smaller than 6.5x47: 6.5x55 body tapers from 12.2mm to 11.04 6.5x47 body tapers from 11.95mm to 11.55mm For a moment, forget what's going on at the back of the chamber; which is simple stuff. Let's focus on the case walls and shoulder; all this concentricity stuff makes it sound as though we're talking about a major cutting operation. Look at the relative dimensions: The reamer is being asked to do about the same or less than an 'ackleyisation' - a slight paralleling of the chamber wall and a slight change in shape to the shoulder - people do that with hand tools in the States! For comparison, this sort of change is widely regarded as 'routine' - but there's greater dimensional change! Perhaps if we call this idea the "6.5x55 Ackley Kurz" or (6.5x55 short ackley) it'd return a sense of proportion to the smallness of the operation- and cause less tea spillage

flyingfisherman
This is a superb thread. exactly why forums are great! Funnily enough Matt, ive had exactly the same thoughts recently, but to re-chamber from 6.5x55 to 6.5x284 in a new blaser barrel. reason being is that you cant get R93 barrels in 6.5x284 any more. Also blaser charge a fortune for special barrels. My main thoughts were to do with the barrel hardness, and the smith risking the reamers, but i'd be willing to buy my own reamers..
