Greenbear
Hi guys, well I have just ordered my new rifle, a Howa thumbhole stocked 1500 stainless synthetic. I am now after some suitable recipes to get her going well, I am sorry I don't know the twist rate though I assume its the Howa standard 1 in 12. Does any one have any well proven loads, I intend to use if for small deer and foxes. Thanks in advance GB
ejg223
Green, did you order in sporter or heavy barrel? I think both are 1 in 14. I've just got one in 22" sporter weight. Only put about 25 rnds through it up to now and will test grouping later. Even these first shot's have been very good with a rabbit at 310m and a few around 200m, two foxes under 200m. That was with 52gr a-maxes, cci br, 35.5gr N140, COL at 60mm edi
SteveW
Hi Greenbear I don' like to give exact load weights, but two powders that have always produced great loads in the 22-250 for me have been H4895 or Varget, and another + 1 for the 52g A max's, also 52g Barts and 55g moly V max's in a 1:14. Cheers Steve
Vermincinerator
34.5 grns of Viht 140 pushing a 53 grn SMK flat base, not fast at 3450fps but incredibly accurate in my rifle. Ian.
Greenbear
Thanks guys, I have gone for the heavy barrel. Hopefully my variation will be back in approx 10 days, so I can pick it up and start playing then. Edi, please let me know how you group testing works out. ejg223
Green, got a bit of testing to do. (I can mail the results.) Loaded some 55gr Nos BT's with N140 and Varget. A-max also with varget and the 52gr Nos BTHP match with varget. All seated close to saami for starters. COL 60mm She is just bedded into one of those "trash-can plastic" stocks for now until I have made my composite stock. Things should get better then. edi
