Bluetongue is spread by midges but they only feed on live prey. This means that it can't easily be spread from carcases once the temperature drops.

So this risk of spreading infection through the movement of carcases is a lot lower.

The symptoms are pretty similar though and if you dropped an animal and found blisters etc, get on the phone to DEFRA.
