Hertel & reuss spotting scope

guys i have a hertel & reuss spotting scope

 

 

its nice i like it , problem is ....its really reasonable condition but what a bugger to pull it open its as stiff as hell to get fully open

 

any advice or tips to "ease" the drawing of the scope

I would try some dry lubricant on the outside of the tube where the seals slide. Something like silicone spray would be good but you could also try probably without expense some furniture polish as you no doubt will have some of that knocking about.

 

Just keep your lenses covered till you have finished applying any sprays.

thought bout trying spray case lube

 

but thought id wait see if i get a reply from hertel & reuss.

 

 

they said not to spray any liquid as it would migrate to interior and the lenses.

 

suggested vaseline so will see how it goes

I wouldn,t use vaseline. it will attract debris. What about a spray on PTFE ? I have a can here made by pennine lubricants, it dries "dry" but bugger, is it slippery.
