hi

i have a remmy 22-250 vssf at the moment witch is about shot out and i kind of fancy having 1 do all rifle instead of 2

from long range varmint and target shooting to stalking red on the hill

i have thought about the 6.5 x47 as i believe it runs on the 308 bolt face

have been told that 6br is not red legal is scotland

want something a bit differant from 243

dont want to have to fireform

so then what would you guys do if it was your own hard earned

all the best bruxie

ps my other rifle is a 25-06

6.5x47 is a "do all" application.

However (there's always a but isn't there)

Youre limited to 130g bullets with the 47, fine if your reds are close in but if they are a bit distant, then you may want to consider a 6.5mm that will handle heavier bullets, such as a 6.5x284 and 260 / 260AI

The one issue you have is your donor is a short action, so you will be restricted with seating depth should you opt for a 284 varient.

Other "do alls" stepping up calibres is 7mm-08 and 308 Win.

The 47 is fine for reds with the right bullet and its a damn accurate calibre for target shooting.

Forgot to add that I also have a 25-06 and that is a wonderful red calibre and great for foxes too.....
