What Kit?

Recommended Posts

Im due to go on my first stalk towards the end of the year and looking around there is a lot of 'must have' :P kit.... tbh I want to keep it a simple and minimal so was wondering what you consider essential for a days walked stalking.

cheers

Your post is a bit vague and requires more detail for people to help. Presumably you are being accompanied? Whereabouts are you going in the country?

Basically just make sure you can cover the different weather scenarios with decent dry boots, waterproof coat etc and make sure you take a hat. You will need a pair of binoculars just take what you have or can borrow.

If on your own then the list is a bit more.

I carry a bumbag so as to put all my rubbish in as I don't like bulging pockets. Obviously you will need a knife and some paracord will always come in handy for all sorts. Some rubber gloves or tissues to keep things clean. I carry a bottle of water for drinking and washing things after. A few chocci bars and your away.

Cheers Eldon. the missing detail... accompanied in Devon.

I think im squared away clothing wise and have borrowed a nice pair of bino's. Its more the other - 'oh i should have bought that', bits of kit i was thinking about.

Clothing sorted - however take a neck warmer if youre sitting - you wont get as cold, also wear a hat.

Neoprene gloves for the gralloch saves time looking for spagnum moss to sanitise your hands.

Short strips of string for tying off oesophagus and rectum to avoid contamination.

Two knives - both with bright handles - very easy to lose....

Compass / map - do you know area?

Mobile (on silent)

Whistle just in case...

Bino's, youv'e mentioned.

Sticks for standing shot or shorter stick for seated...

Some chocolate, a first aid kit, and a hot drink in the car

Probably forgotton something

Oh yes, enjoy yourself :P

As already said, as long as you are warm enough and have good binos, there is not really much else you need as the Stalker will have everything (hopefully!) Make sure you have gloves for stalking or sitting which also conceal your hands. Latex gloves are good so that you can get involved in the gralloch (again, hopefully!) Compact camera maybe? I wouldn't go out and buy any specialist kit yet, save your money to spend on stalking and a DSC1 course where you will meet other people and see their stuff. Have dry kit including footwear in your vehicle in case you get soaked. I would give the Stalker a ring nearer the time and chat through these things. The two most important things to take are an open mind and a sense of humour! Best wishes, JC

cheers chaps :P

I cant wait tbh, Ive been looking into stalking for ages but only recently have been able to finance it. Its quite easy to get carried away with impulse buys though so I thought I would save myself the pain and get some useful gen!!!.
