Nissan Navara - Good or Bad?

I've been offered a a 53 Plate Nissan Navara Pick Up at reasonable money but having read the Owners reviews on What Car and such like, this pick up appears to suffer a catalogue of mechanical and electrical failures and needs to be avoided like the plague.

Are they really as unreliable as these owners say or is it a case that only those with a bad experience of the vehicle have taken their time to give their opinion on line?

well lets put it this way.

we have one at work, or should i say it spends more time at the Nissan dealer than it does earning its keep at work.

load of pant says the lad that is meant to drive it.

he has a discovery on hire for the job and says its like a rolls Royce compared to the Nissan.

i think its been in 14 times in just over 1 year and 38.ooo miles,

bob.

A friend of mine has one and rates it quite well. He has had some trouble with it, something in the rear axle. His biggest problem is dealer back up, they are pretty unhelpful by all account and refused to fix the rear axle problem as it was about 500 miles off the limit of the warrenty (under not over). They changed their mind when he contacted trading standards!

Chances are your going to get something go wrong with any vehicle, I think the toyota is top of the pile of the double cabs, the older L200's are quite good. We had an Isuzu Rodeo at work that was very reliable but got written off after a 30mph front end shunt, made of cheese! I don't know if it's still true about Jap cars being expensive to maintain.

I do prefer Land Rovers but I know they're not for everyone

I have a diesel injection specialist friend and when I showed an interest in these as i quite fancied one myself he said they call them in the trade "knackered navara".

The regularity of the engine failures caused one of his colleagues to drop other models and concentrate on these

I get the impression that the 170 ish bhp is a safe model but I wouldn't fancy my chances with the 130 ish bhp model.

He reckons its due to the publics demand for more power and so they are turbo'd to death. Then they are promptly ripped up and down the motorway at 90+ and people wonder why it went wrong?

I think if it had good history without it being a 130 bhp model then I would take my chance.

Google "Club Fontier.org".

They have an entire site dedicated to just Nissan vehicles, both US and export variants (everyone else). Personally, from what I read, I'd rather have the export version...

My '03 Frontier had some issues when it came off the show room floor. I think the 02-03 years they had some QC issues. Since I quit taking my truck to the dealer (F'ing crooks) and found a good local reputable mechanic, I've had nary a problem with it aside from normal maintenance and stuff I've buggered up while out off road...

110K on her right now, but she's due for some new leaf springs, her butt's really starting to sag...

Crikey, I hope my Mrs. doesn't see this, she might think it's some Freudian thing... :D
