Savages have a great reputation for accuracy straight from the factory and the F-class rifles are considered a really good way to get into the sport inexpensively. I'm not into f-class so I don't know that gun, but on the savage board it is well received.

The beauty of savages is that you can do barrel swaps yourself by buying chambered barrels and screwing them on. When I get back to the US a Savage build is probably going to be the first project. Plenty of aftermarket products including triggers and stocks. Good support on the net for anything you want.

Thanks,

Rick

For the money you cant go wrong! I have two rifles and wouldnt hessitate to buy another. You can change barrels without the need for a gunsmith plenty of aftermarket goodies and as Rick implied "they have a great reputation for accuracy......................". He's not joking!

I had a a stainless 12 savage with the acua trigger & the trigger is about the best trigger on a factory rifle that ive used!

(if u can get used to the center blade which i removed)

acurracy again outstanding with plenty of sub inch 300yd groups to its name!

mine was in 22-250 & was multi shot!

if you look at the group caliber reviews where theres a savage 12 they are normally the most acurate tested!

cheers Andy

Bigun

Only one problem with savage in the UK, the importer are useless, otherwise as far as I am aware these rifles are very good. Enjoy when you buy one.

Hello Bigun.

I presume you're thinking of the 12 lrpv (long range precision varmint) version in 6BR? Savage makes its big F-Class rifle in 6BR now, but it is an out and out competition gun with 30-inch barrel.

I've seen the odd 12 F 6BR in use - there are very few around in this country, probably still in single figures. It's too soon to know how well they shoot, but if it's in the same ballpark as Savage's 6.5-284 F or .308 Win F/TR competition rifles, they should do well.

The 6BR chambering is the most recent addition to the 12 lrpv sporter line-up - I doubt if we have any here yet. There are a few around, mostly in .223 Rem, and the odd .22-250, but they are really rare beasts.

I have one in .204 Ruger, and it shoots very well indeed - groups under 0.3" being on with 40gn Berger HP match bullets. (Smallest group in a UKBRA competition to date is 0.207".) It took me 15 months to get it and a lot of hassle - as Alled12 points out, the official importer doesn't really exert himself over these rifles - considers there is no market for precision single-shot sporting rifles in Britain. I have several friends who've tried to get the 12 lrpv in .204 and given up buying a Ruger, Remy or whatever instead after months of being promised the rifle will "arrive in three months".

For those unfamiliar with the lrpv, it uses a right bolt, left port version of the three-screw single shot Savage 12 Competition action and Target AccuTrigger that adjusts down to a half-pound or so (officially 6oz but that's debatable) with a really heavy stainless 28" barrel, all stuck into an H-S Precision synthetic stock with both moulded-in bedding block and twin pillars.

There is a downside that any foxer who's not ex-Para, Royal Marines or SAS and used to 'tabbing' cross-country with a 50lb pack on his back needs to think about - weight! This is one brute of a gun that's either at home on the rifle range (where I use mine) or as per the American prairie dog hunter, driven to 5 yards short of where you set up to shoot. I'm in the process of acquiring a second 12 lrpv action for a target rifle build from a near new custom pest rifle that the owner has given up on. Not the accuracy which was really good I'm told, but thanks to exhaustion from carrying the rifle around!

If you're still interested in this model, and certainly the competition guns or actions, the man to speak to is Stuart Anselm up in Oldham who trades part-time as Osprey Rifles specialising in Savages with the Competition single-shot action - www.ospreyrifles.com. There are good descriptions of the various models and options on the website, and Stuart also supplies custom parts, non-Savage barrels in other calibres, builds custom rifles based on these actions etc.

+1 for Stuart. He,s a real nice fella, and he really has got his finger on the pulse, when it comes to savage rifles. He will source and get you whatever is available for these guns. Forget the importer...waste of time. Without a doubt, the most accurate factory rifle there is. I,ve seen several in various calibres, outshoot custom benchrest guns, costing 5 times the price.
