6mmBR
Your 12 twist should be fine. But please bare in mind that most 45gn bullets were designed for the .22 Hornet and they will come apart at .22-250 velocities. Your better off using 40 or 50 grain V max instead, these are designed to take .22-250 velocities. Cheers Dave
Andrew
I shoot 46 grain Winchesters from my .222 and .223. You'll know if you have the wrong bullet for the "250: There will be nothing but gray smoke streaking to the target!!~Andrew
v-max
Thanks guys i vary between 50g-55g all the time with same POI in any of the powders i use but after 6-7yrs fancyed trying the lighter heads for fun. So 6mmBr (dave) are you saying i should go for the 40g heads as i have 50g in my safe. Will i be able to stable it in my rifle & i take it the 40g v-max may have a thicker jacket than the 45g cheers Barry.
6mmBR
Yes the 40gn V max has a thicker jacket to withstand .22-250 velocities. I used to get over 4000fps with them out of my .22-250 with N135 powder. Now the rifle wears a .22-250 Ackley improved barrel and I'm getting 4070 fps with a 52gn Berger. If you have some 50gn V max try them first before splashing out on some 40's Cheers Dave
