cloverleaf
just obtained a redding competition die for bullet seating. followed all the instructions and when fitted into the press the micrometer reading is out compared to my precision micrometer reading the two dont marry up. do i need to "zero" the mircometer on the redding die. i have also been using a comparator on my calipiers for measuring over all length on my re loaded rounds can i use this with the die. may be i need justbe told hoe to use one correctly??!! Alycidon
Unless things have changed I thought the scale on the die was just to give you a setting that you can repeat easily as opposed to reading an actual cartridge length. Once you have established what length you want for a specific bullet then you should write the die setting down. I have 2 settings 0 and -48 from 0 from memory, one is for 68s. the other 65s. Vermincinerator
Aly is correct the scale on the dies micrometer head bears no relation at all to the cartridge overall length but is there to give you accurate depth control when seating bullets.
