Guest Tiff
Can somebody please tell me what the maximum weight of reloading powder (non-blackpowder) you can store at home without extra licences? I was under the impression it was 5KG - is this correct? If it is that law what extra licenses and measures does one need to undertake to be able to store more? Reloading for 7 different calibers and soon possibly a .50cal even at 1Kg tubs for each I would be over the limit! All information greatly appreciated, Tiff. eldon
I'm no expert on this but as far as I'm aware you are right at 5kg. The following link appears to be the relevant form which has the limit after registration of 30 kgs. http://www.met.police.uk/firearms_licensin...ments/mser3.pdf
dogfox
Is this a health and safety matter not a police matter. Dogfox
eldon
If you look at the form the registration looks like thats there pigeon. Although I do agree it has got health and safety implications, who would oversee it and ensure compliance. If you look near the bottom of the form the police licence up to 2 tonnes of explosive and after that it is a health and safety executive matter. Guest Tiff
Thank you very much for that Eldon Looks like I need to contact my local explosives officer to seek further clarification. The form does not give any info on how it must be stored, where, in what etc etc. Any further help would be great thanks.
stag1933
5 Kilos equals 1540 charges averaging 50 grains each. Even with 7 calibres to load for that is 220 rounds for each rifle ! HWH.

HWH. Not when your loading 80 - 250 grains per round Found this BASC guidance that is useful: http://www.basc.org.uk/media/explosiveguide.pdf This is also a riveting read: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2005/20051082.htm Looks like most reloading powders are Type 3 and as such with a license I could store upto 25KG at home, without the need for a separate 'bunker'.
