Mark Jones
Just opened up the neck diameter prior to the first loading for some Lapua brass for .260. Used a new KandM mandrel die with Sinclair dry lube. The instructions said to open up down to the doughnut, will there even be one in new brass? Wouldn't have thought so. Also, was quite hard on the press arm with a distinct bang noise near the end of the handle stroke. The mandrel never hit the top of the neck and they all measured within 0.5 thou when done. Does this sound right? Many thanks
trucraft
Sounds fine. Lap brass has quite a tight neck ID when new. I use sizing wax but still required a bit of force on the arm with new brass. The bang will be the depth screw bottoming out on the flash hole. As long as the neck isn't topping out that's fine. I'm moving over to sizing all my brass with a mandrel before loading.
