roundyuk
Morning all, Took my No4 to Bisley yesterday to put some rounds down on the ETR - shot 25 rounds and out of those two had holed primers. Have done some research and a huge thread started by calling out head space issues; but then it started talking about short cases in PPU ammo. Considering I only had two out of 25 I am leaning towards the later, but just wanted some opinions. My mates No4 was doing this with the exact same ammo in Wales a few months back when his firing pin was destroyed!
MrCetrizine
I've shot roughly 2000 PPU plus another 3-4000 reloaded through my No 4 and never had an issue. Enfields do have notoriously inconsistently roomy chambers. I think it's more that the ammo is consistent and the rifles aren't.
roundyuk
Should I be checking anything on my No4 - possibly get some head space gauges? I took some measurements from the cases (and a pic): Primers ok - 2.225 2.212 2.214 2.224 Primers holed 2.224 2.
Strangely Brown
I would physically check the state of your firing pin as a first immediate action.
roundyuk
So spent some time on a US forum and first thing someone said we check the firing pin after they zoomed in on the pics - checked my pin and it was really rough and jagged! Smoothed it off using fine grit paper; need to get back to the range to test!
