shrek
My mate has just started using his .222 which a sourced (and baught) for his 21st, however hes wanting me to load for it and was just wondering if any of you guys know of any good loads for this some what forgotten little round! I was thinking of using H4198 if i can get any! with a 40gr V-max on top, creating a fox laser out to 200 yards, as my mate isnt into long range stuff, or ranging and dialing in, i just want a nippy round thats goin to shoot flatish out to about 200, he probably wont shoot at much over 200 yards anyway! Redfox
I have ended up going onto Hodgdon BLC2 24.5 grs, BR4 primer behind nosler 50gr ballistic tips with Rem brass, 3050fps, this is very accurate less than 0.5" at 100 yds and I can shoot out to 200 without any problem on charlies, I really like the 222 and often use it for longer range crows, pigeons etc. H 322 is a touch faster at 25gr ( 3114fps) but I found not quite as accurate, still good though. I would start at 24 grs and work up as a small change in powder with these smaller cases can make a big difference in pressure. The 50gr is less affected by wind than the 40gr and retains a touch more downrange energy. Redfox
Andrew
The bench rest load in the US for many years was 19 grains of 4198 and a 52 grain bullet. I have used it and I like it. Currently, I'm using 22 grain of 3031 and a Speer 50 grain TNT bullet for 3200 fps. My Winchester plops them into a half inch for 5 shots at 100M and they shred prairiedogs. I have tried the 40 grain V-Max and the 40 grain Sierra Varminter with less success than the 50 - 52 grain bullets the round was designed for.~Andrew
