Giving up on the .17 H M R

In a last effort to regain a grouping of sub 1 inch at 100 yds from my .17Hmr ( it went off very quick and with a series of split necks and miss fires has been put away for a while) I purchased 4 brands of ammunition, 3 at 17g, the Hornady at 15.5g

Useing a Hornady comparitor (which has a bore of .211) allows me I think to register somewhere on the shoulder of the .17 case for reference purposes. All the fired cases measured .903, 5 each of Federal, Hornady, Winchester, Remington. So the chamber of the rifle produces a case measurment of .903.

Now heres the kicker,

Before fireing, 5 measured from each box,

Remington

.880

.883

.883

.886

.886

a difference of .006

So the cartridge has grown on ave .019 ( I have rounded down to .000)

Hornady

.876

.877

.877

.878

.882

a difference spread of .006.

with a ave growth of .025.

Fedaral

.885

.886

.886

.888

.889

a difference .004

with a ave growth of .016

Winchester

.890

.890

.891

.892

.892

a difference of .002

with a ave growth of .012

I would not dare to resize my .223 shoulders by this amount

But no splits or missfires.

All the other cartridge to bore dimensions are not to bad, necks before fireing .191 .192. After fireing .192 Case body .238 before, .242 after.

Can anybody measure their before and after cases please.

No brand achieved 1 inch the best was 1.140 at 100 yds.

I cannot believe the rifle chamber has "changed" since I bought it, I can only assume that the cartridge dimensions have.

Might be the rifle, I had a .17hmr CZ 452 from a local guy and it was shooting ragged holes at 100m

I regret every day I wake up selling that gun
