.300WM Viht powder choices

.300wm

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New barrel arrived with gunsmith this week for .300wm, 1/8 twist lothar-walther all good to go and ready to be machined and fitted etc.

The plan is to shoot 208gr A-max exclusively, I have only ever used N560 in my 300s up to now but noted on the Viht website that for the heavier bullets they also list N160, N165, N170, and N570.

I would like some advice as to which of these powders would:

1. Be best overall for that bullet weight.

2. Run coolest and give longest barrel life

3. Be the most consistent

Cheers guys.

When I ran a 300WM N165 with 190SMK's and or 210 Bergers.

If you look on the web there is published restults of the US military trials for developing loads for the 300WM before its adoption into service, think R19 and 190g SMK's came out tops? There have been developments since then I believe?

Was using 70gr N160, Fed GM215M primer Weatherby Brass and 210gr Berger VLD touching the lands. Off the chrono I was getting average 2824fps

I have now backed that off to 69gr N160 40 thou off the lands but cant find the velocity figures at the moment.

What load data do you have for the 208's and N165 Jagged?
