CliveWard
Hi Mark, I've got the HW66 in .22H which is the same action. When I had mine cut down and re-threaded, my gunsmith did have a cursory look at whipping the barrel out of the action to fit it in his lathe due to the short length I needed. The barrel is held in with 1 or 2 pins from memory (similar to an Anschutz) but with those removed it didn't want to shift, but he didn't try that hard to be honest. We just used a bigger lathe. I would guess anyone with experience re-barreling Anschutz rifles would be a good start. They should be able to hammer / press or even machine it out as worst case, depending on how tight it is in there. Interesting project though. Let us know how you get on. Cheers Clive

Big Al
Can I ask why you are going the Ackley route over the more current .17 Hornet?
mark
The reason for the ackley is to get more power in the larger fire formed case and being able to push the speed up to 4100fps Regards mark
gbal
Mark,Big Al Just found the following-a well informed, detailed review and discussion of 17 Ackley Hornet and the new 17 Hornet. Well worth a read,as it has good points on reloading differences. Google it: "Reloading the 17 Hornet" by Nick Harvey,Sporting Shooter and Shooting News,1 May 2013 gbal
