PJS Precision
Hi, Anyone got any tips for removing lacquer or varnish off a rifle stock, it's a CZ premium 22 rimfire and it was a nice stock so hopefully I can restore it to it's former glory. MrCetrizine
Chemical strippers are best for wood.
Ballistol
Just done this myself on a CZ rimfire. Cheap chemical varnish stripper from B&Q did the trick, but took three coats to fully remove the factory varnish/lacquer. Finished it off with Birchwood Casey Tru Oil. Don't forget the 00 gauge wire wool for a lovely finish.
terryh
Nitromores works well, just follow the instructions and wear gloves! It will open the grain a bit on the wood, use a specific filler (thus: https://www.birchwoodcasey.com/Refinishing/Wood-Finishing/Gun-Stock-Clear-Sealer-Filler.aspx ) and you can burnish with a bit of rib bone. Stain using any of the Birchwood Casey products https://www.birchwoodcasey.com/Refinishing/Wood-Finishing/Walnut-Wood-Stain.aspx then True Oil and wire wool, https://www.birchwoodcasey.com/Refinishing/Wood-Finishing/Tru-Oil®-Stock-Finish.aspx or buy the whole kit and be done : https://www.birchwoodcasey.com/Refinishing/Wood-Finishing/Tru-Oil®-Gun-Stock-Finish-Kit.aspx T
