My CZ Style .22 rimfiree

The first powder burner I purchased was a CZ Style in .22 rimfire. It has remained untouched in modification except for the usual trigger job, carried out by a gunsmith long before the cheap kits now available, and the barrel being chopped to 16" and threaded for a sound moderator, a Sako. It gets cleaned once a year whether it needs it or not.

I have to admit, it has been taken for granted for so many years. But, the other day, being bored, I decided to fit a Nikko Nighteater 6-24 to see how it would work for a forthcoming competition at Bisley, 100 & 200 yards.

The rifle was shot from a bench at 110 yards using a bipod without a rear rest and produced the following group using Eley 'Edge'. 0.676", 0.587 MOA.

I think I'll keep it.

Shootist,

They really are great little rifles, we have a shoot for score comp at our club which is 105yards and must be magazine fed, the CZ'ds do well.

If you are looking to squeeze that little bit extra sort you ammo by rim thickness, if you've a vernier calliper the a fired 5.56/.223 case is a good holder, drop the 22 round into the case nose first and measure loa, group the ammo into batches.

Also the J&P spring is supposed to be a simple upgrade, takes about 30 seconds to install : https://www.jnpgunsprings.com/product_info.php?cPath=10&products_id=3 (Note, their screws can be a bit iffy!)

Question re. The long range Bisley comps, thought they restricted them to single shot rifles? Thus: http://www.nra.org.uk/common/files/events/14/22LR-MatchConditions2014.pdf

Enjoy!

Thanks for the input on the spring. As far as the Bisley comp goes, it's the Phoenix comp 5301 Gallery Rifle Small Bore.

A2.3 GRSB – Gallery Rifle Smallbore

A2.3.1 Any Gallery Rifle in .22” rimfire may be used. The standard for GRSB is a selfloading

rifle with a detachable magazine. Other designs are permitted. All GRSB

must comply with the following:

a. Calibre. .22” rimfire only

Course of fire is

Course of fire: 20 shots + 4 compulsory sighters

Practice 1 (100 yds): 2 sighters individually marked back

2 strings of 5 shots each in 30 seconds (standing unsupported)

Practice 2 (200 yds): 2 sighters individually marked back

10 shots to count in 12 minutes (sitting or kneeling)

I'm not certain about using the CZ in the comp, due to the relatively fast shooting required in Practice 1, and the fact that I'm left handed but the benefit I'll gain in the 200 over my Ruger 10/22 may well compensate for the difficulties at 100. Mind you, the Ruger is pretty good, but definitely not up to the CZ standard.
