Has anyone any advice on setting a scope in a mount and just how tight you go with the bolts ?

Scope is a S & B 3-20 PM with a Third Eye unimount

Rather see if anyone has advice before setting up

Being SXXT scared of going TOO tight has also made me ask the question !

All advice welcome

Thanks

Hi Sapper811,

Nice combo.

I usually refer to these instructions from Badger Ordnance when mounting scopes.

http://badgerordnance.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2011/10/Mounting-rings-and-bases.pdf

I think they work well as general guidelines and I have used them for various scopes, including a PMII 3-20 in a third eye uni mount.

The 3-20 wasn't mine so I can't remember the clearance, but you could consider purchasing a scope alignment system from the shooting shed to set it perfectly up for long range shooting. Check it out here:

To be on the safe side, you could ask the third eye guys for screw tension.

Good luck and happy shooting.

Have you got a good torque wrench? Usually scope ring torque settings are around 15 inch pounds - that's assuming they're dry and oil free. At a pinch the Wheeler Fat wrench will do but if you can get a Borka they are fantastic.

Third eye used to put a sicker on the Unimount with the torque settings - the one I bought recently didn't. I referred to the information Brown Dog posted in a photo in the below link. Mounted mine to 15 / 65 in-lbs respectively.

I think Brock & Norris used to do the Borka wrench, but I can't see it on their website. Might be worth calling them.

This is the manufacturers site: http://www.borkatools.com/pages/atd12/mtsd.html

I use a FAT wrench I got of Midway UK, and it does a pretty good job. http://www.midwayuk.com/Wheeler-Engineering-FAT-Firearm-Accurizing-Torque-Torque-Wrench-Screwdrive
