amssmith
Just purchased a FAT Torque wrench as want to be sure I don't over tighten my scope rings. From what I read here and else where it appears 15lbs ft for the rings is the right setting but not sure about settings for attaching rings to Picatinny rail. The scope rings are Third Eye 34mm and the scope is Schmidt Bender PMII Any guidance appreciated
Wildcat69
My nightforce rings are set for 65lbs and top 15lbs. These figures are pretty standard for many picatinny rings but I presume the most important thing is to be consistent with torquing up your scope rig
oaken
Sounds a bit excessive to me. Do you mean inch pounds intstead of foot pounds?
DaveT
DEFINITELY Inch pounds! I use 65 inch pounds for Badger ring base to picatinny rail and 15 for joining ring halves....lightly lapped rings for max contact. I have some Warnes which they say should be set to 25inch ponds all round... using their own torque wrench (non-adjustable)
amssmith
Thanks to all for the guidance and spotting the obvious mistake of ft lbs - now that would have been excessive!! Good to know I will have it right before shooting this weekend

Gr1ffer
just give third eye a phone he will tell you nightforce are 68inch pounds for crossbolt to bases and 25inch pounds for top rings from the user manual
amssmith
25lbs for the scope rings? I've gone with the 15lbs for the moment as no way back if the scope gets crimped by over tightening. Guess I will know if it needs more should the point of impact shift due to recoil
