1in9
On Aug 17th Royal Mail has launched a UK-wide public consultation on plans to ban the transportation of guns and all component parts. They propose the prohibition of: "firearms (including those listed in Section 1, Section 2 and Section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968 (as amended)), low-powered air rifles and pistols and all component parts such as triggers, actions, barrels and magazines;" Note that they make no distinction between licensed pressure bearing parts and everything else just 'all component parts'. It means the end of spare parts, components and accessories by post, which will severely impact on UK shooting retailers, especially the smaller more specialist businesses who rely on Royal Mail. The alternative to 'no you can't post' will be everything by courier, Royal Mail conveniently suggest using Parcel Force with prices starting at £9.67 + vat per delivery. Shooters wallets take another hit, get discriminated against some more and find components harder to come by. Royal Mail tried this before in 2006 and pressure from shooters and shooting orgs resulted in an overturn by the regulator. They're back. It's a public consultation.
