JohnGalway
If this doesn't belong in this section feel free to move it. Eley Subsonic 40grain .22lr Federal 50grain Hollow Point .223 I think this is a BB (slight thought of AAA in my head but I think BB) retrieved from a foxes cheek. Guest 308Panther
The only one I dont think is correct is the one that is under the Federal 50gr .223 Hollowpoint. Most hollow points have a copper jacket, that one doesnt. And from the rifling marks it didnt shed the jacket. So my guess is it is a standard .22LR fired from a close range or someone is using cast solid bullet in a .223 308Panther
Alycidon
How did you know they were in there?, open wounds?. Most (All?) people that I know don't skin their foxes these days. A

PaulB
Good post John, ( on the other side too ), have you shot any using polymer tipped ammo, ballistic tips& v-max or blitz king, if so has your student friend found the remains of any? Guest 308Panther
May be moly coated??? Doubt it....to expensive to use on a fox. Besides...anyone wantin to maximise barrel life wont touch a moly coated slug to save thier own life. That was marketing joke played on us at our own expense that should show how gullible we are as consumers. 308Panther
JohnGalway
I had been giving my foxes to a research student in a local university. He is researching a particular disease in cattle so was disecting them to examine and test various parts. He removed that .223 bullet from one of my foxes and I wasn't shooting anything else at that time. There is, I think, a photo of the remnants of a ballistic tip fired by TikkaMark, I'll stick it up this evening sometime. Only other way to prove it one way or another is to take the same type bullet out of another fox I guess.
Guest 308Panther
I have a real hard time believing that came from a .223 There aint enough meat or bone in a fox to stop a .223 even if it where shot right thru the bunger and the slug went the full length of the body. 308Panther
ejg223
I've shot a few foxes with them 223 50gr federal HP, About 50% of body shots came out the other side. But they do make some mess inside. edi

JohnGalway
I don't know. All I can say is this much, that I wasn't there when the fox was being sliced and diced but the student told me it was a bullet from my fox, and like I've said the Federal were the only rounds I was using at that time. I do understand the copper jacket argument though, and the next fox I shoot will be going under the knife by me Most of the foxes I've shot in the chest while they were standing facing me have not had an exit wound. But, I'd say 90% of the side on heart/lung shots have had an exit wound. This has got me thinking now.
