My Background:

Parachute Regiment since Aug 2002, In Jan 2008 I broke my neck and back, smashed my head up, with complications and abdominal injuries. I required reconstructive surgeries to my neck and have a crooked back spending the best part of 4 years in and out of Headley Court and a variety of other specialist hospitals. During this time I have received great help and support from Help for Heroes in a whole cross section of different guises. Despite significant improvement and a refusal to lie down and give up, I was diagnosed with an incomplete spinal cord injury at C6 (the neck), which is quite high up. This will unfortunately leave me medicated and reliant on medical assistance for the rest of my days and I am now resigned to unreliable limited mobility and occasionally have to rely on a wheel chair and I am soon be medically discharged from the military.

This year I plan to Race Across America (RAAM), with 7 other injured and wounded soldiers, a 3051m cycle race which must be completed in under 9 days. A significant undertaking even for a fully fit athlete and one I have thought long and hard about. As difficulties and challenges go this is the most extremely stupid and most irrational idea I have added my name to since my accident in Jan 2008, but you have to be in it to win it and who said a challenge should be easy…?

Any sponsorship and support will be greatly appreciated. Below are some details of the race and how to follow our progress. It would be great to see some of our supporters out on the roads with us during some of our training ride as well.

I know only to well the importance of of "Help for Hero's" as I'm once again down at Headley Court myself on Monday.

Over the last 18 months working as a welfare and visits officer, I've spent time with colleagues and friends who have been fighting hard, to recovery from injuries.

And would like to pledge my support and kick things off from UKV and offer £50.00 to help.
