1967spud
Ive just recently bought a wildcatting book from Dess and after having a quick look through one particular case caugtht my eye. Its the 6.5-300 WWH (Wetherby-Wright-Hoyer) So the books says its an awesome 1000 yards case and can propel a 140 grain bullet at 3400 fps or in that region. Any body know off this calibre. Danpd
It's a 300 weatherby necked down to 6.5 and it is massively overbore. To get the velocity you will need a large freebore and that may affect your accuracy potential. Also you are wasting the case capacity If you use use it to propel a 140gr projectile, you would be better finding a 160+gr custom bullet with a ludicrous BC and using its horsepower to push that to 3-3200fps Totally useless as a competitive cartridge, but might be fun to have a play with for a bit. Gunsgobang88
Hi Spud, The 6.5 WWH a.k.a. the 6.5/300 Weatherby has been around for a number of years, it's listed in the 1985 Sierra manual. Described as overbore but very accurate, it has a case capacity of over 96gr of water. Case forming is just a matter of running .300 Weatherby cases into a full length die, then you can become the powder and barrel makers friend! Best regards Alan P.S. I left another message about the powder.
