BR 700
Probably one for the smiths or the legal minded of you. When a barrel is shortened, must it be reproofed? I know there are various thoughts about threading a barrel and proofing, but would this be modifying? Thanks B

Thanks B Hi B, My take on this and of colleagues in the trade is that just shortening without any reduction in barrel wall thickness (such as threading) does not require reproofing. If the reverse were true then everytime a barrel was recrowned it would need to go to proof. The most important consideration is that neither the barrel or the overall functioning length of the firearm go below the legal minimum length, Cheers Alan
