palo
Would I be giving up anything in accuracy if I went for a lightweight varmint contour barrel instead of a remington varmint contour one when I rebarrel my remington 204 rifle ? If you were using it as a varmint rifle (one shot with possibly a couple of follow up shots) I don't think you would. The problems might occur if you were firing consecutive shot after shot where you'd get an extremely hot barrel and a mirage effect

Everything else being equal there should be no apparent difference in the inherent accuracy, the heavier barrel would be slightly steadier. You would have to fire several shots in .204 before you noticed significant mirage, Alan
