Got a call from a neighbour a couple of weeks ago to despatch a fox he had caught in a cage trap. Went over to find a fox in very poor condition with a tag in its ear!!!

what is the point to tagging the animal, any information on the tag, where or what it has been tagged for, road accident recovered, catch and release from a site in the city, or just a harmless tagging programme for monitoring for scientfic values

To tag the fox it had to be knocked out or a very stressful affair for the animal, there has got to be a under lying reason somewhere, no one tags foxes for the fun of it, some one some where has the answer, regarding the release part, who in there right mind would release foxes into a already populated area of local activity of foxes, the thought of transmitting diseases such as tapeworm & mange is enough to make anyone think twice about about releasing foxes let alone the struggle of the animals to survive in a new area against limited food sources, abandonment of animals in a environment unknown is the worst part, I don't believe for one minute these people who are undertaking this tagging and release of foxes in other areas care too much for fox welfare at all, it is a feel good factor for themselves and they are not looking at the foxes welfare one bit.

Terrible state of affairs for the welfare of foxes and the areas they have been re located too,

Oops nearly fell off me soapbox again :D
