Is that last group at 100? If so, brilliant shooting! Was that using the SK or RWS ammo?

Hi there, yes it was the 100, and I was using SK Match.  I thought I'd switch to the RWS as they are a little more consistent but I found that they were not much better so I swapped back to the SK.  I'm really impressed with the SK and allegedly they are made using Lapua machinery once Lapua think that the high tolerances that they demand start dropping off slightly, how true this is I'm not sure , either way for what it costs for a thousand I'm more than happy.

  2. I can't believe it's been over a year since I last posted on this thread.  It's been eye opening to say the least, some excellent shooting and great photos of some excellent groups.

I was at the range for the first time in 14 months earlier this week and shot my 457 MTR at the 100 using SK Match mainly and then switching to RWS Special Match.

I just took delivery of a S3 6-24x50 FFP as they were half price at OW so had to zero that first before getting to grips with the rifle again after such a long lay off.

Not too bad a day weather wise, no flags up so just aim, point squirt.

I managed these groups which I was quite happy with.

All 5 shot groups (some include adjustment as I just zeroed at 50, bottom right target) and the last photo was the best group yet.

I'm thinking of buying some more expensive ammo which would improve the groups, I just need to raid the piggy bank 😁

Thank you. The LOP was a fair bit short for me to be honest. Had to put a few packers in but once set up it made it a lovely comfortable gun to shoot. Originally it had the synthetic stock on but I couldn’t get on with that at all. To short , awkward grip and made me feel as though I was shooting a cadet rifle, all hunched up and uncomfortable.

Hope your new stock comes through soon 👍

Thanks I hope so too.  Regarding length of pull, I think the LRP stock is a bit longer than my current MTR which will be a welcome addition as currently when I'm shooting off the bench the gun/scope combo is that bit too close and that's with scope mounted as far forward as I can get it safely.

I'm Milton Keynes and I shoot down at Bisley, it's probably a similar distance for you.  I try and get down twice a month for a two hour morning session, then lunch and then a two hour afternoon session.  Usually takes me about 75mins in the morning to get there and about 2 hours back.

I joined the OSMSC, they shoot pretty much every weekend, and during a month, they will have sessions for everything from 50yds .22/gallery, through 100yds/200yds/300yds/600yds to 1000yds and McQueens.  You would almost certainly have to do a 3 month probation but the only restriction there is you cannot shoot beyond 600yds.  You can use club guns and ammo for any discipline where you need to, there is a club house and they do lunch on shooting days.

Anyway, I think it's the easiest way to shoot at Bisley, friendly enough, and no BS.  PM me if you want to know what it costs and I can tell you what the programme is for the next few weeks and put you in touch.

    Much appreciated 👌
