  1. One thing does strike me, the AI product line is now a lot more differentiated. The AW, AE, AT,AX and chassis series were all ‘tactical’ rifles with an AW wooden target stock exception many years ago when the AW was not sold to civilians.

The new AT-X and AX3 seem to fit very different roles. I think this is why we are getting red and blue stock media pictures...... a big push into a dedicated sporting market ( PRS). Possible the civilian market is out-stripping the military/ LEO market at least in the US?

Terry.......IPSC and USPSA have shiny shirts..........PRS is ending up with shiny rifles ;)

  2. If the action sits lower in the stock recoil will be more direct, not necessarily less. The more muzzle flip the less recoil being directed back. It’s more of an issue in semi auto platforms, particularly open pistols. Looking at something with a very  low bore axis like an Alien pistol your wrist takes a lot of hammer. A better compromise can be something with a higher bore and well designed compensator.

The AI ATX looks to be like a lower cost option lacking some of the gucci bits like AI’s excellent folding stock and tool-less stock adjustments. A good argument can be made that these are not required for PRS etc.

If it’s made from 6061- mehh, if it’s made from 7075 - it’s got my attention, if it were made from magnesium and carbon fibre- it would have my undivided attention....... (and be called a KRG Habu, I know).

  3. I can’t remember the thread but think someone was interested in an AI Arca rail. Craig’s been busy with the old mill. I’ve done a screenshot of the pics on our fb page. There are more pictures on our  fb page. The bag adapter and long Arca rail on the forend tube is made by MBE Ballistics. Craig made the short forend rail  up for himself. Anyone interested in the tech can contact Craig through our fb page, he’s in Scunny.

edit to add..... I understand that MBE are developing their own version of a one piece forend like the one I have in Czech.

  4. Matt, thank you for the reply. I will send them an email. Usually pistol suppressors come with a ‘booster’ - basically the barrel to suppressor mount is spring loaded to allow the pistol slide to cycle, not desirable when putting it on a PCC. Some companies like Suppressor Co ( US) offer a solid spacer to replace the spring........I’ve been thinking about doing a similar modification to an ATec MM6 suppressor.........but there might be something already available that I don’t know about.

A picture or two may help to explain what I want to achieve - suppressor inside the hand guard.

Sig mpx pcc 16” barrel is the start

Ditch the hand guard for 14” Lancer carbon. ID is 42mm

Ditch the barrel for 6.5” barrel ( legal in Czech). End of barrel to end of hand guard is 200mm as best I can measure- hence the maximum 35mm OD and 220mm minimum length required.

  5. Catch, I would certainly say that you are not the only person who doesn’t feel much love for the AW thumb hole stocks. Personally I‘ve never had a problem with mine - but then I have little girly hands. I did find it more comfortable to change the AXMC grip over to to one of Alan’s ( GTac) adapters to use AR 15 grips though.

The AW I keep as it was the first rifle that I lusted after when they were the latest thing on the block many years ago. Nowadays they look bare bones basic which has a strong appeal to me - not refined cnc but welded box section chassis with no thills or stupid sounding names. It’s a bit like an mp5, some people will see vintage and some will see iconic. Pic below of AW chassis completely stripped down  in about 5 minutes:

  6. Dave,

Which mags would you recommend please?

Barrel 1:7” twist 22” long. Group was only at 50m ( just barrel break in) but we shot about 4 or 5 groups which were all similar ( impressive really- shot 1, clean it,  2 shots clean it and they all went in the same hole). Looking forward to stretching it out to 800m next month.

I had to eat my words a bit because the barrel has a cooler / barrel fins - JP call it a thermal dissipator. I call it a chocolate fire guard and would have binned it from the start but doesn’t seem to have done any harm.

Also of note was the trigger, the idea was to order it with the standard JP trigger and bin it for a Trigger Tech Diamond but the standard JP trigger is excellent-light, clean with a  positive and reset so left that in instead.

  7. Break in day today for a mates JP 224 Valkyrie. Top tier kit, JP AR 15 (semi auto)..... they are the best AR 15s period, Nightforce 7-35 ATACR, Spuhr cantilever mount. Still waiting for the Cyke bipod but the Harris does  well.

Even for about £10k is not a perfect set up, the 6.8 SPC mags worked fine but the 6.5 Grendel mags made it like shooting a U.K. single shot - constant failures to pick rounds up from the mags.

Today was just about barrel break in. One thing was really impressive- the eliminator break, hardly any recoil with the system at all. Also I liked the side chafing handle ( ala FN Fal) and not having the stupid T charging handle at the back of the receiver.

Accuracy - we were only using my 50m range but everything was one hole groups, irrespective of clean or dirty barrel and velocity was averaging about 800 m/s with Hornady factory 88 grain ELDMs.

Next is to get the fired cases measured and start seeing what it really like with reloads.

  8. I still don’t get the 45 degrees key slots. Stuff comes loose when you don’t want it to and gravity lends a hand, stuff falls off. Would not have been an Eisenstein moment to reverse the key slots - release hole at the top so loose stuff doesn’t fall off when it becomes loose. Perhaps I am missing something as AI usually don’t do daft stuff.
