I can't be fussed with weapon verses firearm terminology;  all firearms can be weapons but not all weapons are firearms.  The anti-lobby aren't going to be influenced by this one way or the other.

Anyone from a military background will be very familiar with using 'weapon' to mean rifle et-al.  If you use a rifle to kill a deer it's a weapon isn't it?  Perfectly reasonable use of English.

For politeness and sensitivity to some peoples feelings I try to stick to using 'firearm' in RCO briefings but find I often fall back on drilled in habit and start calling them weapons - even the NRA can't make its mind up, using both terms in their literature.

Now come along Pops...... what were we taught on the RCO course......? 😀

The difference between firearm and weapon in my opinion is intent.....

I've managed to shoot throughout the inter-lockdown period without getting anywhere near members of NRA staff.

The online booking system & electronic targets have made this very easy, and long may it continue.

    Pete

Same here Pete. Zero contact and a smooth operation. Easily quantified within the NRA’s risk assessments as an employer, low risk concern so long as the mitigation measures remain.

Information, instruction and supervision. Can’t comment on their application of these principles but as for all this Tier nonsense, turn off the TV and radio, don’t read the papers and would you know a pandemic was even there?

  3. I have one that works ok. I seem to get consistent results but the speed control with nylon wheels is a little coarse.

Ultimately you get what you pay for and I’d describe the case life as the Ford Escort of annealing machines, it does what it says on the tin but not with much style.

I have a friend who has designed and built his own version with better quality components, I can put you in touch with him via pm as he’d happily make another I’m sure which would still be a Ford, but more like a Granada rather than an Escort....

Right, I'm in for this. Some very obscure, and real, cartridges here, but I think they work.

    Ronnie Corbett - .25 short

Brian Blessed - .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer

    Joanna Lumley - .246 Purdey

    David Niven - .303 British

    Sean Bean - .50 - 90 Sharps

    Kenneth Moore - .22 Spitfire

    Terry-Thomas - .350 Legend

    Leonard Rossiter - .350 Rigby

And lastly, Noel Coward - .55 Boys

    More to come I think😏

The Noel Coward suggestion made me laugh out loud!

  5. A bunch of my shooting buddy’s and I have been considering if calibers were “actors” what actor would they be?

So far we have reached general consensus that:

    338 is Ray Winston

    6.5 Creedmoor is Lionel Blair

    303 is Henry Cooper

    308 is Michael Caine

    223 is Larry Grayson

    455 Webley is Errol Flynn

    44/40 is John Wayne

    9mm parabellum is Hardy Kruger

At the risk of being politically incorrect..... 22 short is Jimmy Clitheroe......!

    45/70 is Lee Marvin

The question is are we a) mad, and b) is there consensus on our ramblings?

  6. I’ve used a shooting colleagues 7.62x39 rifle (the M10-A1) a few times and found it a fabulous bit of kit feeding without fault from AK mags. Highwood classic arms has one for sale at the moment that I’m lusting after but without the funds to feed the lust!

There were some concerns when first released about the quality of the timber used as I recall, but I think this was due to owners failure to ensure screws were adequately tightened after shipping.

I have a No.5 that I shoot regularly and find it no worse than a No.4 in terms of accuracy. The wandering zero theory I believe had been debunked and any accuracy issues are probably more to do with shorter sight radius, an increase in felt recoil and poor maintenance. I searched a long time for my No.5 and discovered that there is a lot of rough examples out that have had a hard life in military and civilian hands, this in no small way contributes to their reputation as being the poorer relation in the “No.4” family.

  7. For sale is my Sightron SIII scope with tactical turrets and the 2 moa reticle.

Magnification range is 6 -24 with 50mm objective.

In excellent condition but very slight ring mark as shown in photo.

Included in sale will be Warne steel rings, lens covers and sunshade all in the original box with manual and cleaning cloth etc.

Scope has full zero stop and has been on my 6.5 creedmoor for the last two years working a treat for me out to 1000 yards and beyond.

Reason for sale is an upgrade in scope and mounts in readiness for a new rifle in the new year.

    Looking for £525 including post

  8. Thanks again folks. The Era-Tec products look good and a similar price too which I wasn’t expecting.

Originally I was torn between two..... now it’s three!

I think Sphur is a nose ahead at the mo despite my desire to support a British producer in Tier One. Era-Tec coming in neck and neck with Tier One, it’s a photo finish I think.

    Any more views?

I'm thinking of £300 to £400 kind of range. Is that sufficient for a reasonable scope that will stay accurate for the 308 recoil?

    Thanks

Ossey, I’m about to sell my Vortex Diamondback Tactical with steel Warne rings for a figure within your price range. Drop me a message if that interests you.

A good scope for what you need starting out in the centre fire world. Lots of reviews on line.
