  1. I am going on holiday to Tenerife on Friday and wondered if anyone had found anywhere to shoot there?

I found a club that does F class, FTR etc, using Google, but they ignored my e-mail enquiry. When I was in Malta last year I found a place to play with 9mil pistols and had a go with an AK47 for shits and giggles. I think the longest range they had was 35 metres, but they had every gun under the sun :)

  2. I would also love to pop my one mile cherry. Furthest I have shot to date is 1000 metres at J3A, but that seems no longer available currently. I have a Sabatti MRR chambered in .300 win mag and using my current load it will go transonic at about 1200metres 😥

Perhaps I might win the lottery and be able to afford a 50cal 😂 Tad unlikely as I can't afford to spend money on tickets LOL

  3. I'm already a member of ODRC, it's Frome & District Pistol Club I want to join to get more opportunities to shoot.

All the clubs I have ever spoken to suggest that they are legally bound to have a probationary period for all new members, even those who are members of other clubs. I have to say that it sounds strange, but then again the rules surrounding FACs are pretty odd at the best of times. From a clubs perspective I guess it makes sense to ensure that a joining member is going to fit in and not upset other members.

  4. I do not profess to have any expert knowledge of who's to blame, but who ever is mismanaging tax payers assets should be called to account.

My suggestion that maybe it should be the NRA, is that they are paid by all the clubs and was under the impression that one of their purposes was to speak on behalf of the clubs that are members of their association. Their voice doesn't seem to be as powerful as their namesakes across the pond, not that I believe a rifle association with that level of power is desirable 🤣

  5. Offa's Dyke Shoot at Warminster IR2 (1000yards) once most months on a Thursday and are allied to the 50cal club, though all the field firing ranges seem off limits currently. They also shoot at Kingsbury, North of Birmingham, Sennybridge (Brecon) and Rogiet Moor when it comes back on line. Good bunch o lads at Offa's Dyke.

Frome and District Pistol Club use Langport (600yards), Yoxter (600yards), Warminster (not sure which ranges they use) and Bulford (500yards) I am in the process of applying to join them, but despite being a member of two other clubs and holder of a safe shooters card I will still most likely have to do a 6 month probation.

Is the ban on taking cars to the point new?

Was not a problem last time I shot.

I sadly was unable to make the last shoot at Warminster thanks to a serious dose of Man Flu :( , but my mates that went said that they wouldn't let any one, presumably except the RCO, take a vehicle to the firing point despite one of the lads being physically disabled. On a personal level they were pretty pissed off with Landmarc's intransigence, who seem to see paying customers as a damned nuisance. Our views not necessarily those of our club.

  7. Last Sunday I left my bed at a time when only burglars and policeman are supposed to be awake, to collect my friend in Bristol and travel 120 miles through some very unpleasant driving conditions to Kingsbury range. After signing in and having SSC and FAC scrutinised, we assembled the 'flat' pack trolley to take our rifles to the 300 yard firing point and was all ready to go when we were told that because of some standing water on the range it was to be cancelled. Being the last shoot before Christmas there was a spectacular turn out, spread across three clubs, I believe.  I talked to a lady shooter, who is from my club and lives quite close to the range and she said that there had recently been quite a few cancellations.

    Is this true?

Is there no way someone at Landmarc could have looked at the range the day before and combine that information with the weather forecast to warn those attending, via their clubs by e-mail that the would be a likelihood of a cancellation to prevent the likes of myself driving 240 miles for no purpose what so ever. 8/9 gallons of diesel itself is not cheap ignoring the rest of the cost. I am in no way suggesting that the fault is with the clubs as they are run by unpaid volunteers and can only pass on data received from Landmarc who are employed by the taxpayer to manage the military training infrastructure. Their website tells us how they are efficient and provide second to none service. Last Sunday didn't seem to be very efficiently handled.

    Thoughts?

'G' range isn't mentioned. I shot there in November and all was fine. I'm gutted to see they've taken J3A away now. What's that all about? That was my favourite range 😥

Not good for the environment ... we have to travel further and further for our sport and most of us necessarily use four wheel drive vehicles.

If comrade Corbyn gets in I think it will get worse. Not only will he cut back massively on military but I doubt he would approve of the proletariat enjoying firearms either.

I wonder if long range target shooters class as an oppressed minority?

  9. I have been suffering from tendinitis which shows little sign of disappearing any time soon. I have found that the pistol grip on my Sabatti STR .308 play hell with it so am thinking about changing gun and given the nonsense coming from the MOD/DIO concerning restrictions on calibers I'm thinking that it may pay me to go for 6.5 Creedmoor given it will easily reach 1000 metres. Before J3A was cancelled on Saturday it had been suggested that my .300 Win Mag Sabatti MRR would be OK, but for how long? If they're limiting us to .762 will we be doing HME testing?

Nest problem, when I have my finances sorted and a variation is achieved, is what gun. My immediate desire would be a Sabatti MMR but I would like either a GRS or Form Rifle laminated stock for it. I have a Form Rifle Stock on my CZ527 and love it to bits. I am very impressed by the barrels on the two Sabattis I already have and love that the Multi Radial Rifling allows the barrels a far superior life than conventional rifling and really can not afford to re-barrel what ever rifle I buy. Do any other manufacturers have another version of MRR? The MRR barrels are also massively easier to clean! Sadly the Form Rifle Stocks don't make one for the Sabattis and the only way to fit one would be prohibitively expensive. Not sure about GRS, but have my doubts. I love the big heavy barrel of my .300 Win Mag and with my home made muzzle brake it has minimal recoil. The stock is fine to shoot with, but I don't like plastic.

I appreciate that here are other 6.5mm rounds, but there is a greater choice of rifles available for Creedmoor.

    Any thoughts?

just to add , if you or someone from your club gets caught out by landmark you may find your club will be banned from  booking future range dates  or just banned .This is what I was told by a landmark employee . last week .

love them or hate them . Rules are rules !

The way they treat us one could be forgiven forgetting that we are their customers and as tax payers have funded and continue to fund these bloody ranges in the first place.

I take the view that as the holders of an FACs and  SSCs we have already had to prove that we are responsible above the average and are trying to put money back into the public pot and make better use of tax payers infrastructure and as such should be treated with more respect than we are.

  11. The club is doing its level best. These infernal restrictions apply to any club using the ranges. Hopefully it will get sorted soonish. Apparently the military can’t use Rogiet either so it’s in their interest to overcome this safety issue that hasn’t caused any accidents. Apparently the problem is that the range was initially built for 600yards then extended to 600 metres. I guess we have to wait to see what they decide. In the meantime I’m looking forward to Warminster 😃

  12. Rogiet is the closest to me and whilst I prefer 1000 yards, 600m is great for .223. I'd be interested to know if the military are still shooting on it? I don't understand how the mantlet being low is unsafe. The bloody range was built in very recent times so presumably calculations were made for safety? Or could this be new legislation from the EU? If the military speced it wrong in the first place, as a tax payer I want to know why.

Severnside's OK and I do like Richard, but 100/200 yards isn't that challenging for my long distance rifles.

Be nice to go to Warminster later this month for the first time since the start of the year; assuming the military do nick our slot AGAIN!
