  1. Picked a CZ527 Varmint in .223 and a laminate stock, for very little money. It has had a bit of a hard life, but still might have plenty of years left and don't know if it's a lemon or not....

when I came to taking the action out of the stock, I did so, riddled about with it, inspected it and what have you. Probably 20 minutes later or so, I went back to the stock and moved it off the bench. Lying on the bench was a steel tube. I don't remember seeing where it was from or where it fitted. But, a little bit of discernment has established that it has come from the rear action screw hole in the stock. It fits in there like it should, a rear pillar, if you like.

now because I didn't see where it came from, the question is, should there be one in the front action screw hole of the stock as well?!! It would be a different size as the rear doesn't fit and there certainly isn't another one lying on my bench or the garage floor.... if there is supposed to be one, who knows when it came out. Might explain the owners claim of poor performance... and I can't imagine there would only be one.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Surplus to requirements. A 5.11 Tactical Field Ops Watch. Apart from having the usual dual times, stop watch, timer, alarm etc, it has also an electronic compass and a ballistic calculator.

I have used both functions and they are surprisingly accurate as long as you take a bit of time to input your data first.

The original strap perished so I’ve replaced it with a new two piece, 20mm NATO strap. Likewise, I had a brand new battery fitted a couple of weeks ago. It comes with the instructions and it’s original box.... which is somewhere.

This is a used watch but quite good condition. There is a scratch on the face but not noticeable during normal use. As the face is actually mineral glass, it may polish out nicely.

These are now discontinued but can be found on line in Europe for 250 euros or so.

I’m looking for 95 quid for this.

I have to chuckle.  I've shot boar with .223 (light AP rounds), an put them down easily...

Yep, I imagine you have. It’s well documented that the AR platform is the preferred “boar” rifle in North America. But, the feral pig of the US is not a Eurasian Wild Boar.

The feral pig will a average 150 to 200 lbs, rarely getting up to 400. In western and Central Europe, they average 200 to 290lbs. 400 to 475 not uncommon. Eastern Europe average  300 to 400lbs, sometimes getting up to 550 and Asia can see their boar hit Brown Bear sizes!

a .223 semi is suitable for dealing with large numbers of small pigs in a sounder that have gone culled quickly before making cover. .223 is not suitable in the UK. The minimum for U.K. is .270 cal with a 150gn bullet and some countries of mainland Europe require a .30 cal 180gn bullet minimum.

  4. I don't shoot deer, I shoot boar. European boar are big, strong, nasty angry bastards, deserving of their genre as "dangerous game". I use .30-06 for some of the more open ground and .45-70 for close wooded areas. Simply put, you can shoot deer with your boar rifle, but you won't necessarily be able to shoot boar with your deer rifle...

  5. Limited knowledge believe that FMJ have no sporting/commercial use.
These are in commercial packets not military packaging. Given Scandinavia has a long establish sporting firearms use, I’d go with that.

it was The Hague Convention of 1899 that banned expanding bullets for international warfare, built of previous agreements from the late 1860s

But saddler was trained in the shipyards of Sunderland so doubtful the rough old stripey deckchair has much knowledge on anything past the use of a hammer...

    The Maccem Chimp.

  6. I have an HS Precision STR. The stock is fitted with this Gen 1 detachable mag and I want to change this for an AI bottom metal.
What’s the ballpark figure I should be looking at to have the work done by someone reputable. I don’t want to rock up with a tenner, and it’s costs 18 quid! I appreciate craftsmen charge accordingly.
Secondly, I’m in Kent, so someone Kent/South East, who should I speak to?

Lastly I’ve had people tell me that HS bottom metal is worth something S/H, others tell me it’s worth nothing. Is it worth selling to off set the costs of the conversion?

    Cheers.

I'm sorry to say 'simgre', that RS40 contains both nitroglycerine (NG) and nitrocellulose (NC), so you are

I’m sorry to say BlueBoy69, you’re confusing me with a previous post of someone else.

I don’t use RS40, never even tried Reload Swiss powders, and it remains I’ve never used a double based powder in my RPA...

  8. I bought an RPA 7mm-08 with an Archer barrel nearly 17 years ago. I never load to the maximum, nor do I use double base powders. I know it's limitations and it's a solid 800m rifle giving comfortably sub-MOA five round groups.

Its had nearly 5K through it so far.
