  1. SOLD.

I got this stock as part of a new build. It has been lightly used for practice and competition. The McMillan ADJ A-5 Thumbhole stock is now surplus to requirements. It is compatible with Remington Short Actions and had a Borden Alpine action installed. It is pillar bedded and has Tier One bottom metal for AI magazines. As I weighed the stock (66.4 oz) I note that the action screws are in place too. LOP is currently set to 14.5 inches, however it can be adjusted as there are a number of spacers installed - see black section of butt.

    Advertised elsewhere. More photos available.

    £900 ono posted RMSD.

    Thanks

I’m after some advice, I’ve been thinking about downsizing and I’m thinking all I need is 1 rifle and 1 semi shotgun for wildfowling.

does the AT fit the bill ?

I currently have a 223,22-250,6BR,243win,6.5cm I like the idea of just one rifle that does it all I’m thinking an AT in 6.5cm with possibly a 243win spare barrel in the future.

feel free to talk me out of it.

One rifle doesn't do it all in my experience. The main challenge I find is checking zero after changing ammunition or a scope. I don't have easy access to a range for checking zero.

    My current approach is -

260 Rem for stalking roe and any larger deer

6.5 Creedmoor for short range competitions

308 Win for red deer and practice (two scopes)

    All rifles are moderated.

  3. I went out yesterday with my CZ 457 MTR and shot at 200 yds in cold bright sunshine with a gentle L-R breeze. The two shoots were run as plotting training sessions, so after my initial shot, the trainee plotter made all the calls. First shoot was with RWS R100 ammunition and the second shoot was with SK Long Range Match. All shots fired were on the targets, so you can see how I started and moved in. The innermost yellow ring on the bull measures 4.5 inches. We plan to go back soon for more plotting practice on a windier day. The brighter yellow target (top) is the RWS R100.

I’ve seen quite the opposite on numbers Andy, every match this year I’ve squadded with a first time shooter who’s come back and shot other events afterwards. I’ve had more conversations about starting shooting Precision Rifle last year than the year before and have seen the formation of ladies PRS group prepping for next year as well.

What would you start that’s different to shake things up?

The dynamic SIS wasn’t for me, for various reasons. It looked like everyone had fun whilst I was RO’ing and I recall you increased the numbers of your teddy collection.

I predict 2023 will be busier again as there’s already 8 centrefire matches in the calendar and all being well at least one rimfire match per month! Personally I plan to get to as many different places as possible and shoot even more than before.

    Two things jump out -

Introduction of a class for stalking rifles.

Publishing the calendar of events - I've already got events in my calendar through to October this year. I've no idea when PRS is happening.

Send it Series comps in Scotland are £60 entry

That includes being fed lunch and water

So matches don’t have to cost silly money

    On a different note

It would be nice if someone would provide a match that’s moves away from the precision rifle “bench rest” type comp where a 30lb non recoiling rifle and a gaym changer bag are mandatory ,,,,,,,

Find it, range it, shoot it, much more appealing - natural obstacles or features rather than “same old barricades”

Would appeal to many people and create a level playing field

Agree, I would like to shoot the PRS type match with one of my stalking rifles and know that I wasn't competing against folk with rifles that weigh twice as much or more.

Similarly, I like the idea of it but the cost is a bit prohibitive.

How does this cost compare to the other PRS type shoots? Are there any of these around any more?

I've shot at at 2 day match once, I agree it's just too expensive. I like the challenge, so I'm currently pursuing .22 PRS type shoots instead with my CZ 457.

  7. David Tubb once upon a time recommended 38 gr of N160 for Sierra 107gr BN-coated MatchKing bullets. It's very hard to find David's recommendations online any more.

I ran the following two loads in my 6XC -

    105 Scenar N160 38.00
    105 Amax N160

    36.76
