John
I also have a Magnetospeed but unlike yours its just the normal mount which is a faff to setup and keep tight so Labradar is better for me.
Agree they are both accurate.
I have been measuring 223 with a mod fitted so maybe I will try again without the mod to see if it triggers more reliably.

Roy
Where do you position the muzzle?
-
VERY happy with this until I use 223 where recording is patchy.
I would be interested in other users experiences re small calibres.
-
What is going on!?
-
I don't know the kernel size of N160 but N550/ N560 kernels are circa .04 grains if that gives some sort of guide.
-
I could not get on with the Lee thrower...it would crunch on large kernels and leak finer stuff.
Forever fiddling with the tension srew just degraded the whole setup.
The Lee was never meant to be motorised.
The V3 thrower is a transformation.
-
Is it general practice to use Loctite...non setting.....on rail to action screws?
-
V3 all the way.....thrower etc is sooo much better than V2

+1 re srvets post........I had a similar response initially to my 338 variation....it being described as 'the bad 338' !
I protested with club help and got my variation.
Don't let them make law on the hoof!

I've been using HBN in a 6x47 for a year now...........115 grain Tubb DTAC's, factory coated, from day 1 on a new barrel.
All I can say is that the barrel stays very clean, no copper so far (500rds approx).
Pete
Same here.....little or no fouling. Its VERY easy to apply and no great additional effort. My main aim is extending barrel life in a 6mm SLR. Velocity is as required with 43.5g H4831.

As a new member to the world of FAC, my next stop was to join Offas Dyke as that's the nearest long range near to me. My membership form is pretty much filled out and ready to post but after reading some of these posts I'm a tad worried if it's the right Club to join if all of these restrictions are popping up? Do I hold on or do I bite the bullet (oops) and send off the form and hope for the best?
Join...... the club is a good 'un!
Also if and when Salisbury plain comes back you can use that with FCSA.
-
Exactly Terry....we have paid for the ranges and it sticks in my throat to feel like we are being granted some sort of 'privilege' in being allowed (to pay) to use them!
-
Absolutely agree.
All I am saying is that we are getting squeezed out at distance and it is a worrying trend for the future.....especially for larger calibres.
-
Severnside is a nice little range and Richard the owner is a good sort....but how much use is 200 yards max?
-
Ase ultra are good.
-
Good idea Brillo!
I still want to hear steel ringing though!
I can and do go to Roundhouse and Orion but the cost makes it infrequent.

By spurious safety issues I was refering to the statement that 'suddenly' the mantlet has been declared as 300cms too low.
It has been there for a LONG time without incident as far as I know so why is it suddenly declared unsafe?
To my mind the safety aspect is with the shooters competence and I have not witnessed unsafe behaviour.
I do use Bisley but the joy of somewhere like Salisbury plain is that you have multiple distances and target variations available to keep the day interesting.
When I go to Bisley I have my drops, calculate windage, get on target...then what?
Unless the wind is varying significantly there is not much more to keep my interest after a few shots.
Just my view.
-
Slowly but surely getting FUBARed with loss of af Field Firing ranges, calibre restrictions and now spurious safety issues.
I have no interest in short range activity and waning interest in paper targetry at single distances all day long....extremely boring!
From my perspective my shooting is being gradually suffocated.
I am just too far from Diggle, Eskdalmuir etc to be practical / affordable.
Is there no end to whats been happening over the last couple of years?
As for military ranges being 'their bat and ball' ....who do they think provides the bloody taxes to pay for them?!😤
-
Got original info from Offas Dyke website.
States that the mantlet is too low....raising that affects everything else including targets.
MOD etc giving no deadline for .upgrades.
Its as safe as houses!
What is going on?
-
I see that this range is now closed due to 'safety issues'.
The lackof availability of ranges is getting serious if you want any distance.
-
Relative to 308 or 6.5 the 243 is also a barrel burner.
It does make an excellent target calibre perfectly good for 1000 yards with the right bullet.
If you are getting into target shooting then your expectations about hitting at range will soon increase!
600 yards looks far away until you have worked out your drops and then suddenly you will only want to have a few shots before looking at 1000 and beyond.
308 or 223 will be cheapish options BUT the 6.5 will improve your prospects at long range.....and you WILL very soon aspire to 1000 yards I promise!

The calibre issue for me is that my 6mm and 6.5 cover 1000 yards+.easily with legs to spare.
My 338 really needs Salisbury back.
I have shot 338 at Warminster but what an expensive hole in close range paper!
