  1. My understanding is that flat base bullets tend to be more accurate, as it’s easier to produce a consistently flat surface than a consistently angled surface.

Boat tail bullets will retain velocity and energy better than flat base bullets, but how far do you intend to shoot them? It’s surely better to hit a 300-yard fox with 450 foot-pounds of energy than miss him with 500.

  2. I’m sure that it was my DSC.1 certificate that got me my first stalking permission.

Imagine that you’re a farmer or landowner, and some bloke whom you’ve never seen before walks up and asks to shoot a powerful rifle on your property. You’d want something on paper to reassure you that he had some idea of what he was doing, and that’s where DSC.1 comes in.

    Recommended.

A couple of Events could be impacted by flooding at Bisley this weekend. The NRA are holding a CSR Winter League Match on Saturday on Century and the GBPRA are holding a PR1 Training Event with the support of the NRA and AI according to their website.

Looks a bit wet, will these events go ahead?

300 yard firing points were closed on Wednesday; 200 and 600 were very squishy underfoot.

What about killing rats within suitable range

is the a suitable close quarter range ?

     Thanks

    No.

Air pistols are neither powerful nor accurate enough to hunt rats. Nor, l would imagine, could you shoot accurately enough. You’d maim or cripple twenty for every one you killed, and that’s not what we’re about.

  5. I’ve used a .177” CO2 pistol loaded with flat-head wadcutter pellets. At “powder burn” range, its power level is academic.

Distract Ratty by pushing a twig or piece of paper through the bars for him to attack; then, when he’s chewing on that, give him the good news in the top of the head. Job done.

(Hint: Place the trap & live rat inside a large plastic bag - l use one of those charity collection bags that come through the letter box about ten times per day - as Ratty will flop and spurt for a good while. Saves cleanup time.)

    Hi folks,

Had a small scare the other day whilst reloading that might be a helpful reminder to people to keep safe and follow your procedures not being sloppy. Primer popped when being seated and flashed over into try causing other primers to detonate.

This happened using a Hornady Hand Primer

    My set-up post incident

Close-up of hand primer – not sure where rest of pieces are.

Close-up of “flashed” primers (Note empty but dented cups)

And this is the resulting cuts to hand – fortunately they seem superficial. Blast also blew my glasses off my face and they landed ~6 feet away.

Fortunately I was wearing latex gloves so some protection.

Be careful folks and wear your eye protection.

(Just in case people are interested, didn’t notice anything different from usual. Cases were PPU factory on ~4th firing. Primers were Federal Large Pistol. Cases had been sonic cleaned and primer pockets checked prior to priming and I’d primed ~50 that session. This process has served me fine for ~3 years of loading)

    Best wishes,

    Scrummy

    Wow! Glad you’re OK.
