Bambi-basher
Must be bloody keen bb sod that give me a gun anyday Hi Foxy Trouble is you can't shoot them when the dogs are "holding" the boar by it's ears Or the bullet would pass straight though and you would soon run out of dogs. With really big pigs the dogs will bail them rather than trying to hold them, in that case you can shoot them at 10 yards.(lever action .44s are popular for this) You also get good opportunities to shoot them running before the dogs catch the pigs, they can run at surprisingly speed, especially down hill. It is unusual for the Pom to get to the bail first, as the Kiwis are generally much fitter than your normal UK stalker and they have a bigger incentive (it is there dogs getting ripped up if it goes wrong ) however I am a bit fitter than most of the normal UK stalkers. It is not a dangerous as it first sounds so long as you have got good experience pig dogs, once you get there then the dogs tend to step up a gear with the pig, once you get it’s back legs off the ground it can’t get any real power into driving it’s tusks home, then once on it’s back the tusks are facing downwards so if you make sure you keep it that way the dogs will keep it’s neck/head under pressure to stop it biting you. Well that’s the theory any way. B-b
