name is DM80SU universal

production models will be 200mm by 40mm' 100mm over barrel

3 types of finish satin black/gloss black/ silver s/steel type finish all hard anodised

fully strip-able even the inner baffle section is in 2 sections for thread cleaning etc

The rear of mod fits all factory rf barrels up to sako quad varmints etc.

This mod is fully universal ie .22 and .17 comes with 2 caps if required but can be ordered with just 1 cap etc which will be cheaper.

Cost has to be finalised but will be very competitive

1 offs can be built to order ie thicker barrels 1" and shorter barrels ie arnie.221414 carbines etc

i will do a few simple tests over the weekend but i will not be comparing it to others,

but so far i have this to report.

1, build quality/finish......................first class.

2, servicing/strip-ability ..........no screws to loose and no tools needed.

3, looks...............................judge for yourself i love it.

4, weight.............................feels like there's a mouse on the end of the barrel.

As mentioned above the moderator can come with both the .17hmr end cap and the .22lr cap, the diameter of the hole in them does make a difference, but is way outside the range of my ears,

simple maths means a smaller hole should slow things down thus making it easier for the moderator to work. and this is the reason for the 2 end caps,

If you want it for a 22 then you just have the one end cap. and if you have 2rifles that you use IE: the .17hmr and the 22lr then you can have both the caps,

The inner baffles are the same high quality that you have seen in the past from the DM stable, but what is nice is the fact that even the inner baffle construction can be stripped for cleaning of the threaded area that attaches the mod to you rifle, ( i am sure just about all rim-fire threads are going to be 1/2" unf ) so this is a coarse thread and is indicative of being a bit of a muck magnet.

The end caps can be removed in house or in the field should you change rifles in the field, but the best bit is with this you only need 1 mod with 2 uses.

to sum it it for me at this point, I am not here to have a fight over who's is better than who's, but i do have my own opinion on this and I think its simply a rather nice idea,

i am just doing the pictures so will be back in a mo,

bob.

1, the new look, that is just right. not to much but just enough. http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3762/dm80su002.jpg

2, the inner baffle assembly removed, no screws or tools needed, not the O ring for sealing. http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/5084/dm80su014.jpg

3, now the moderator with the baffle assembly removed and also showing the 2 cal/specific end caps. http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/5484/dm80su003b.jpg

4, end cap number 1, the 17 hmr, http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/7782/dm80su026.jpg

5, end cap number 2 the 22lr. http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/775/dm80su006.jpg

6, a close up of the end cap showing that all important o ring seal. http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/1241/dm80su011.jpg

the oil like substance is what the mod is coated in after manufacture, and i will be removing it before the field tests on Sunday morning,

so far i am very impressed with it. and i have no doubt it will perform flawlessly in the field along side my older DM80S.

thank you

bob

if this is not ok with the moderators then please delet it,

Just to be clear here, this mod is for rimmys only then?. I have seen pics of what happens when a rimmy mod is screwed onto a centerfire, not nice.

THIS IS PART 1 CONTINUED, THIS IS A RIMFIRE MODERATOR ONLY.

the Dm 80 SU continued.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

here you go guys,

just popped up to the gun room before the wedding later on today,

the top rifle is the CZ 22lr 16" carbine.

the bottom rifle is the CZ 17 hmr carbine.

pictures are with my older DM80S with no cross etchings and the new longer DM80SU with the interchangeable end cap system and cross etchings.

looks feels and balances very well for those like me who shoot varmints from a veh, ( getting old is no excuse but who cares)

The fit is the same as the older one nice precise and tight, and the cross etching makes it easy to get of, i love the NO TOOLS needed now as i was always worried about loosing the jointing screw from the older model,(thats the wee silver one in one of the photos.)

the finish on this one is very nice and knowing Dave it will last for ever, just look at the older one of mine ( end photo's ) it has had some real work and seen well over 4.000 rounds of ammo.

I will be out Sunday/Monday with the in the field trials with pictures of some nice wiltshire country side.

until then keep safe.

and wheres the cider mate.

bob.

THE FINAL TESTS,

Well i got out to my local shoot about 1930 last night and done some shooting with it, done the targets first, then some long range stuff of the bi-pod/bonnet/wing mirror. and then took about 8 fur balls after dark.

So here goes.

Field testing test

The basic test was to see how it got on in the field, with respect to shooting from my wee truck and from a bi-pod, the pod shots where a bit of a problem as i had taken the scope of both rifles as they where being changed over, so once that was done i got down to testing the old DM 80s against the new DM 80su.

1, the lay of the land.

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1777/dm80su001.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/3687/dm80su003.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/2082/dm80su004.jpg

2, the targets with a nice back stop.

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/9814/dm80su005.jpg

3, the results,

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/775/dm80su006.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/9089/dm80su007.jpg

4, cleaning.

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1537/dm80su009.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8923/dm80su012.jpg

long range shooting after zeroing with the new DM80su.

The longer shots where taken shooting at a old polo ball from 100 to 170 yards all of the wing mirror. will get some pictures of the polo ball in a wee while, ( as its rolling about in the bottom of the truck.

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/2940/dm80su018.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/6940/dm80su015.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/47/dm80su020.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/5633/dm80su021.jpg

The penetration of this ( highly compressed poly? polo ball just shows how hard hitting the little 17 hmr is, and even a glancing blow is a bit of all right too.

My conclusion

This like all Dave's mods is built to last, its construction is nice and simple uncluttered and easy to strip and clean, as you can see with the photos of the mod in the loading shack it was rather dirty, but i took it into the house and washed it under the tap ( yes you did read it correctly ) i then stood it on the heater in the front room until this morning,

I have a couple of things that i will pass onto Dave but none of them are worth mentioning on here, they are more to do with me than the moderator, questions rather than recommendations And as i am no engineer i would only look sound daft if posted on here.

Finally

I like its simplicity ease of stripping and how it feels for me when shooting from the vehicle and of the pod. i found it easy to handle when changing from .22 to the 17hmr ( note: don't do it up too tight as there is no need too )

I like its looks and its just a tad bigger than the older one so nothing to get worried about there,it performed flawlessly in all aspects with respect to what it was made to do,

Also a big thank you to the BBS and some well known others that i asked if they would mind me doing this, and of course they all said no problem, i hope i have given you as much as i can in my unofficial way, it was nice to do and i hope you enjoy the reading.

Well done Dave and thank you for letting me test it.

bob.

just doing the pictures.
