Lyman press - thoughts

Recommended Posts

Have chance to buy a second hand loading press but I haven't come across one of these before.

It's a Lyman all american turret press. What are any thoughts on these, or value?

The guy had a .338 so I assume it can handle 308 etc. Largest I load is 7.5x55.

Thought appreciated.

Started reloading with the All American in the 70's-had two.I tended not to use the turrets in rotation, just too much effort, but turn to the new function-like resize to bullet seat, every batch/50/100-and left the dies screwed in.

Worked fine, needed the tension adjust tweaked of course, after turret move, but unless you really are looking to serious quality control ,it loads OK (and serious loading is best done with arbor hand dies,or a very rigid/pricey press..and lots of other rather pricey comp dies.....)

I'd say £35-40,if in decent condition-with shell holder-Lyman still sell the special fitment ones held in by a screw...probably £8 ish each?

I really liked mine-why I had two-it's a neat size,and always felt quite chunky.
