222 factory ammo and Tikka T3 super varmint

Aussie Foxer

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

anyone using factory ammo in there Tikka T3 Super Varmint ?

I'm contemplating buying one in 222 cal for Foxing.

Is there still a good range of factory ammo available if I didn't want to get into re-loading.

What are your thoughts on the Triple 2 for Foxing ?

Regards,

Neil

Near perfect...50/52g soft points ...to 225 yards.....longer shots (300+) really need the 22/250 or similar.

cf 222 Fed 50SP or Hornady 50 vmax @3140 300y 7.6/13 200zero,10mph drop/drift Energy 450 ish ft lb

223 Win 50 BS'tip @ 3410 300y 6.4/11; Fiocchi 50vmax@3300 7/11.3 energy 550 ish

222 is a very well balanced cartridge as above-enough,comfortably- but not too much that is unneccessary. All the major US ammo makers load for it,and there is excellent euro ammo.

Generally, factory 222s do not have the fast twist option that 223 has to stabilise heavier bullets,so the 222 is a 250y cartridge but a very good one.

Still popular in Europe, but you'd have to check your local availability for ammo-should be OK,though-it's been much used in Australia too.
