243AI & 105Amax Load Data

Just trying to work up a load for my 243AI Rem, running a 1-8" gain twist barrel & 105 Amax.

Accuracy is great (in the two's) with 49 Gn of retumbo but only running at 2950 fps, I was hoping for around 3150 fps.

Wouldn't mind trying the 87 Vmax also.

Any suggestions for Hodgen powder as it has the best availability where I live, I can get Vhit but I don't want to drive to calgary every time I need a can.

Thanks.

Steve.

Hi buddy ,

Nice to see you here!!!!!!!!!!!! ;):P

Now i was running a RPA in 243 ackley with a 26 inch 1 in 9 twist Border barrel.......

Sorry i only used Hodgdon 4895 to form the cases to the ackley chamber!!!

The load i was using ( with cases formed )...............

Lapua fully prepped cases

Viht N165 ............47 grains

Federal 210 match primers

105 A-max seated 10 thou into lands.............. = 3150 fps..............

I ran H 1000 but found it a good 100 fps down..........

Another powder which also gave me excellent results and the same 3150 fps was Reloader 22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this is of help...............

All the best........................

Thanks Varminter!

I have some Reloader 25 & some H4831SC so I will give them a try.

I have learned over the years in the UK and over here in Canada that you have to stick with components that you can actually get as the amount of custom bullets that I tried in my Nesika 6PPC only to find that I could no longer get them after I developed the load was nothing short of embarrasing. ;)

I can buy Reloader 22 at the local store so if you could give me an idea of charge weight I'll give it a go.

Just removed the 243 barreled action from the Lazzaroni thumbhole and am bedding it into an A5 tactical and mounting a Leupold MKIV 8.5-25X50 so I should be ready for some range work next week.

Thanks.

Hi Steve ,

As for load date with reloader 22 it was as follows.........

41.5 grains velocity....... 2876 / 2922 /2961 / 2952

42 grains 2976 / 2933 /2967 / 2960 / 2952

42.5 grains 2990 / 3001 / 2992 / 3007 / 2958

43 grains 2980 / 2975 / 2974 / 2984 / 2970

this is the only info i have left on my 1 in 9 twist barrel 243 ackley i used to own!!!!

You should be able to take it up to a comfy 3150 fps as i did , but cant find the relevant data - sorry about that!!!!

As always work up carefully!!!!!!!!

Let us know how you get on..............

All the best................... :D :D
