An evening of chauffeured foxing.

Well a big thanks to my friend Andy (Nemasis .243) for a cracking evenings sport.

Andy phoned me Friday to see if I was upto an evenings lamping as the farmers had been cutting silage like mad in the good weather. He said this would be a good chance to see whats about and see if we could catch Charlie out on the open fields looking for victims of the mowers.

Well I left home an flew down the M4, there was just no traffic. I arrived at the farm and met Andy and we popped in and had a cuppa with Ian the farmer whilst we waited for it to go dark.

Well I was spoilt :P my usual foxing is on shank's pony but to night Andy and I were chauffeured around on the back of Ians pick up. So off we set Andy on the lamp as he kindly invited me to shoot :D .

The first fields came up a blank, it was probably a bit early. We moved on and saw 3 foxes in one field but we failed to get on them as they were sky lined a bit so didn't present a safe shot.

Andy's lamp then picked up some eyes in another field so we drove around to get a safer shot. The one fox slunk off, but Andy's calling brought the other in to 160yds where the 6mmBR and an 87 Vmax spoilt its night. Andy relaxed a bit as we had one in the bag. You know what its like when you invite a mate down you want things to go well.

We moved farms and Andy's lamp picked up 3 foxes on this one cut field, we pulled in and I took one out but the others were not hanging around to receive the same medicine :( .

On the way back we called into some fields where he keeps the cattle and I shot a cub at around 100yds, so a job for Andy to get the rest of them.

Well it ended as a good night we had seen 9 foxes and I shot 3 for 3 which I was well pleased with.

I left around 1.15am and had a great run home and was in bed by 2.30am.

Thanks Andy for a great night, nothing like spoiling charlies night :D and thank Ian again for me for his hospitality.

Looking forward to the next installment :)

Dave

For me a huge plus of the web is getting to meet and maybe shoot with other members, at the end of the day what we do is a bit specialised. The UK boards make it a lot easier and there is a fair chance that someon ewill be closish to you but I did make first contact with both 6PPC and Vermincinerator through American sites.

Nice shooting by the way.

Thanks Dave I am really glad you enjoyed yourself :D ,its just a little gesture to all the kindness and hospitality you have showed me in the past , having invited me up to have ago at the longstuff :D:( , but when you come to think about it you have cost me a lot of money ,another rifle , scope ,range finder and all the loading bits, well Dave I have to blame someone on having an excuse to go and buy new toys :):P .

As I said last night will try and sort something out for when Ray comes down,I hope his 6ppc is as accurate as your BR its nice to invite someone out who can shoot ,so many people ask to come out and they all talk the talk ,but cant do the buisiness.

I was up early this morning and went and had a mooch about, had another cub and a Vixon, I have been watching her for a few days to see how many cubs she had but I have only ever seen the one with her and the Chicken farmer was getting fed up of seeing it lazing around about 400yrds from the hen houses .

So got down to the spot where I have been putting the old Kitty Cat out and she was laying there with the cub and they are both still laying there now from the old 58grn Vmax injection. :D

Good going Andy and thanks for the offer of some shooting when Ray comes down to stay.

We'll get that sorted as I would like you guys to meet up. I'm sure Ray will be upto a night out chasing Charlie :)

Sorry to have cost you so much money :P but you have to spend it on something.

As I said earlier when you get your gun fetch it up and we can establish the OAL for your loads for you and get it chronoed.

Thanks again for a great nights foxing.

Speak soon

Dave
