Raifuru
I am after a rifle for very informal 100 to possibly 300 yard shooting. I have a 20TAC that can be very competative, but the gun is very lightweight hunter build. I had my eye on a nice PPC, but became unavailable. Trying to find a cheap PPC (sub £1000) does not seem too easy but BRs are. In non clinical Benchrest environments would a BR be competative against a PPC. gbal
Yes. GIven equal 'quality' the 6BR is a better bet for your shooting.Remember most 6PPCs are top end custom BR rifles-not to say that 6BRs are not,and there were rather few 'factory' PPCs-Sako and Ruger, and a very few others like Cooper, some of them ' sporting' weight. The 6BR actually outshoots the 6PPC when shooting for score at 300y - it clips the line just enough more to make up for any (very slight) difference in intrinsic accuracy. The 6BR of course,in appropriate twist (the 6ppc is rare in fast twist-its a 100/200 yards BR cartridge,by design) has far more flexibility, and would be club competitive to 1000y (esp on a calm day). The 6BR dominates European CISM and 300m shooting. As you note, there are more 6BRs around, and more at 'club' prices. Both are lovely to shoot, easy to load/feed,shoot superbly.PPC is the more specialised,as above-love them both, but for 300 (and beyond)...6BR all the way. Availability simply clinches it-but you will not be handicapped by the 6BR's performance. gbal
Raifuru
Gbal. Thanks for that. That makes sense and answers what I needed. I'll go for the BR.
